The Grammy Awards 2021: Beyoncé Wins Four But Sir Elton John Might Still Hit Someone

Beyonce Knowles Taylor Swift Dua Lipa Harry Styles Cardi B Elton John

On a night when barely anything was normal at the 63rd Grammy Awards, history was made as Beyoncé  not only won four awards but also became the most decorated female artist of all time with a collective 28 awards. Beyoncé  was reported to be a no show prior to the awards, much to the dismay of the organisers who had ideally wanted her to perform. However, as the evening got underway and the TV cameras panned across the room, it was something of a surprise to see both Beyoncé and Jay-Z seated at one of the socially distanced tables. Beyoncé was the big news, and the big winner on the night; her fourth award meant that she surpassed the total number of awards by a female artist, an honour previously held by Country singer Alison Krauss with 27. One of the biggest losers on the night, no doubt to the horror of Sir Elton John, was Phoebe Bridgers. Phoebe was up for four awards including Best New Artist and Best Rock Song, sadly she didn't win in any category. Elton, talking to Phoebe Bridgers on his Apple Music 1 'Rocket Hour' show ahead of the Grammy's, had said "If you don’t win at least one, I’m going to hit someone, OK?" We are yet to see whether he has! For now let's see who won what.

2020's Most Searched For Artists On Google

Kanye West Shakira Cardi B EDDIE VAN HALEN Grimes Van Halen

After a crazy year of CoVID19 enforced lockdowns this year's most searched for things on Google were likely to have been skewed somewhat by the abnormality of the circumstances. Joe Wicks certainly got people interested in his fitness routines whilst banana bread and sourdough recipes were de rigueur. Among Us rose to the top of the gaming pile whilst the how to's list included, how to cut men's hair and how to make hand sanitizer. People we'd previously never heard of became household names, including Joe Exotic and Carol Baskin, and sadly, others like Caroline Flack were searched for altogether different reasons.

Politics played a huge part in driving our searches with Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Boris Johnson and Kanye West leading the way and the Black Lives Matter movement came to the fore, prompting many searches including Juneteenth.

Of course our main focus was on Coronavirus which, as was to be expected, topped the overall most searched for topic on Google in the UK. In entertainment there were a few obvious chart toppers but also a few wild cards. Let's take a look at who you searched for in 2020.

How Cardi B And Megan Thee Stallion's 'WAP' Became The Most Political Song Of 2020

Cardi B

It's difficult to believe that now, in 2020, women are still having to defend themselves for talking about their enjoyment of sex proudly and publicly. A woman expressing her sexuality is in danger of being criticised for doing so by both conservative groups and feminists. They are accused of objectifying themselves and other women and treated as though a healthy sexual appetite reduces their worth as a human being.

When Cardi B dropped her single WAP with Megan Thee Stallion last month (August 7th), everyone was shocked. It wasn't like she was the first woman to release a song about sex, but to do so so explicitly with no attempt to diffuse the language into something more palatable is rare to say the least.

Cardi B Pulls Out Of Bruno Mars Tour - "I Underestimated This Mommy Thing"

Cardi B Bruno Mars

A few weeks after welcoming her first baby into the world, Cardi B has announced that she’s decided to cancel all of her upcoming autumn tour dates with Bruno Mars, admitting that she’s “underestimated this whole mommy thing”.

The chart-topping rapper gave birth to a baby girl named Kulture earlier this month on July 10th, with her husband Offset from hip-hop trio Migos. Cardi had been due to hook up with Bruno Mars for the North American leg of his 24K Magic tour in the autumn, but she’s not ready to leave her baby at such a young age.

“I thought that after giving birth to my daughter that six weeks would be enough time for me to recover mentally and physically,” the 25 year old star told her fans on Instagram. “I also thought that I'd be able to bring her with me on tour, but I think I underestimated this whole mommy thing.”

Cardi B Launches Counter-Lawsuit Against Former Manager

Cardi B

Superstar rapper Cardi B has launched a counter-lawsuit against her former manager, whom she claims was “disloyal and deceitful” and even tried to control her romantic life.

Back in April this year, Klenord “Shaft” Raphael had sued the star, real name Belcalis Almanzar, for $10 million claiming that he had been “frozen” out of her career after she exploded into the mainstream over the last year. Raphael claimed credit for discovering the star, and sought to enforce the rapper's management agreement with his company WorldStar that entitled it to 20% of her gross income. He also alleged that Cardi defamed him by telling people that he stole money from her.

Three months later, chart-topper Cardi is looking to have all management and recording agreements made with Raphael declared void by launching a counter-suit worth $15 million, which she filed in court on Thursday (July 5th), according to Variety.

The ‘Bodak Yellow’ star, 25, took to Instagram to tell her fans that she won’t be fulfilling her scheduled summer tour dates beyond this weekend’s Broccoli City Festival in Washington, D.C. as she enters the third trimester of her pregnancy.
