Carey Mulligan's Campaign To Change Perceptions Of Dementia

Carey Mulligan

Oscar-winning star Carey Mulligan has spoken about her hopes that society’s misconceptions about dementia will be corrected by a better understanding of the condition.

The 30 year old actress, who is married to Mumford & Sons’ frontman Marcus Mumford, wrote a moving opinion piece in her role as global ambassador for the charity Alzheimer’s Society, and also spoke on Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme of how she has sought to maintain a relationship with her beloved grandmother, who has suffered from the incurable disease for 12 years.

“I’ve certainly had it in my experience that people with my grandmother have gone ‘well she doesn’t know me. It doesn’t matter that I don’t visit because she doesn’t know me’,” she said on Tuesday (December 27th). “Every visit for the last seven years, she hasn’t recognised any of us.”

Awards Season Shifts Up A Gear With BAFTA Nominations

BAFTA Matt Damon Ridley Scott Tom Hardy Charlotte Rampling Carey Mulligan

This is the point where the industry weighs in on the conversation that has been limited mainly to critics so far. Unsurprisingly, Carol and The Revenant feature heavily in the BAFTA race. But unlike the awards season to date, genre films like Mad Max: Fury Road and The Martian were virtually locked out of the major categories. (The Martian managed nods for actor Matt Damon and director Ridley Scott.)

Also unexpected for Bafta was the absence of local favourites like Tom Hardy, Charlotte Rampling and Carey Mulligan, and not even one craft nomination for Spectre. Bafta voters also failed to nominate two other current favourites: Creed and Joy.

Carey Mulligan Charlize Theron Amy Schumer Gwendoline Christie Jennifer Lawrence

We like to think 2015 has seen Hollywood re-define womanhood with various movies depicting unusually interesting roles for women. Some, of course, are true stories or documentaries, but others truly mark a true progression in the film industry. Here are just a few of this year's movies that have done women proud.

Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury RoadCharlize Theron is as badass as it gets in 'Mad Max'

1. Mad Max: Fury Road - We haven't seen a character as badass as Furiosa in movies for a while, and Charlize Theron really nailed it as a shaven-headed renegade with a mechanical arm who had grown up around men. She rescues the five wives from her tyrannical boss and gives Max a run for his money with her ability to fire a weapon.

Meryl Streep Signs On For 'Suffragette', Though Carey Mulligan Takes The Lead

Meryl Streep Carey Mulligan

Meryl Streep will play British activist Emmeline Pankhurst in Ruby Films’ Suffragette, the studio has announced. Pankhurst was the leader of the British Suffragette movement who founded the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) in the early 1900s. The veteran actress, who is an outspoken feminist and equality advocate herself, has come into the project on short notice, since the film begins shooting in the UK on Monday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Meryl Streep, SAG Awards
Streep is diving back into the indie scene with a hard-hitting drama about the Suffragette movement.

Suffragette stars Carey Mulligan, who plays a young foot soldier of the early feminist movement who is radicalized and turns to violence after seeing peaceful protests achieve nothing. Streep plays a supporting part. The film will reunite her with screenwriter Abi Morgan, who worked with Streep on the Margaret Thatcher biopic Iron Lady. Sarah Gavron is directing. The film doesn’t have a distributor yet, which means that it may take some time and a couple of festival tours until Suffragette comes to a theatre near you.

'Inside Llewyn Davis' Wins Gotham Award, But What About The Oscars?

Coen Brothers Oscar Isaac Justin Timberlake Carey Mulligan

Inside Llewyn Davis, the Coen Brothers' movie starring Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan and Justin Timberlake, beat 12 Years a Slave to win Best Picture at the 23rd annual Gotham Independent Awards on Monday evening (December 2, 2013).

The award is considered a huge boost for the Coens' movie, which is set for limited release on Friday to make it eligible for consideration at the Golden Globes and Oscars in 2014. Though reviews have been highly favorable following screenings at the film festivals, the movie - a comedy-drama about a singer-songwriter who navigates his way through New York's folk music scene in the 1960s - has generally been discussed only as an outsider for the major awards behind Captain Phillips, Gravity and perhaps crucially 12 Years a Slave.

Mumford & Sons Bassist On The Mend After Blood Clot

Mumford And Sons Carey Mulligan

After an initial scare, Ted Dwayne – Mumford & Sons bassist – is “recovering nicely” from surgery on a blood clot. The popular band had to cancel a few dates in America, much to the dismay of their loyal fans.

Winston Marshall was kind enough to keep us abreast of his buddies’ state of health on Twitter. He wrote: ‘Ted is recovering nicely from surgery. He's a brave little boy. Thanks for all your support. We are very grateful”. The folk band announced the news about their 28-year-old bandmate in a statement via their website. It read: “Our friend and bandmate Ted has been feeling unwell for a few days, and yesterday he was taken to a hospital to receive emergency treatment. The scans revealed a blood clot on the surface of his brain that requires an operation. Ted is receiving excellent care and we are being assured that he will recover quickly from surgery.” We hope Mr Dwayne achieves a healthy recovery from that scary ailment.

Marcus Mumford and Winston were seen out in Texas as they waited for important news about their bandmate; they were joined by Carey Mulligan: the wife of Marcus. The pair wed a year ago in April after just one year together, having known each other as youngsters when they would write to each other as pen pals. That's nice.

Would Carey Mulligan Make A Good Hillary Clinton?

Carey Mulligan Hillary Clinton Scarlett Johansson Jessica Chastain Emma Stone

It has been rumoured that The Great Gatsby actress, Carey Mulligan, is favoured to play the US Secretary of State and former first lady, Hillary Clinton, in an upcoming biopic entitled Rodham, according to sources speaking to The Hollywood Reporter.

However, director James Ponsoldt, who directed The Spectacular Now earlier this year, is said to be keeping several other A-list actresses in mind for the role including, Emma Stone, Scarlett Johansson, and Jessica Chastain.

Set in 1974, the feature-length film will be centred of the life of a young lawyer Clinton before she and her husband, former-president Bill Clinton, entered The White House and will be released in 2016 to chime with the next US presidential election.

Could Carey Mulligan Be Playing Hillary Clinton In 'Rodham' Biopic?

Carey Mulligan

There have been a few names touted about the place to appear as former First Lady Hilary Clinton in the forthcoming biopic Rodham, but a surprise front runner has emerged in the form of British actress Carey Mulligan.

The past few months have seen a host of names thrown up who could potentially play the role, with Scarlett Johansson, Emma Stone and Jessica Chastain all fancied to appear, but it would appear that Mulligan is the producers’ top choice to take on the role, which will depict Clinton during her younger years. Mulligan has never been mentioned in and among the rumors that have been circulating around the film. No decision has been made yet, with the other actresses still in the frame, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan is to sit down with director James Pondsoldt and both sides are eager to strike a deal. The actress was nominated for a best actress Oscar for her starring role in An Education.

The film is to show Hilary Clinton as a young lawyer in the 1970’s, finding herself embroiled in the Richard Nixon impeachment case while at the same time fostering feelings for the man who would go on to become her husband, now former President Bill Clinton. Mulligan’s latest role was in The Great Gatsby, which was a critical flop but has become a commercial success, increasing her bankability.;

Cannes Film Festival Leonardo Dicaprio Carey Mulligan

This years Cannes Film Festival will be heading back to the heady days of the Roarin' Twenties, a time of affluence, jazz, glitz and glamour and the setting of the newly release The Great Gatsby. Whilst the movie has already had it's premiere in the U.S., the grand stage of Cannes still makes it's European unveiling an exciting prospect, especially for all those involved, such as director Baz Luhrmann and stars Leonardo Di Caprio and Carey Mulligan, who will all be flying over the the south of France to attend the screening. Mulligan wont just be preoccupied by commitments to Gatsby either, as the star's next film is also being premiered at the festival too, the Coen Brother's latest effort Inside Llewyn Davis.

Carey Mulligan On Her Great Gatsby Character, "She's Like A Kardashian"

Carey Mulligan Leonardo Dicaprio Baz Luhrmann Kim Kardashian

Carey Mulligan beat out a slew of Hollywood's finest actresses to land the coveted role of Daisy Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's hugely anticipated Great Gatsby movie. Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson and Michelle Williams had to sit and watch as the British actress snagged the lead role, though the recent trailer appears to suggest Warner Bros made the correct decision.

The 27-year-old appears in an elegant Gatsby inspired shoot for the May issue of Vogue magazine. "It's that kind of feeling: I'm-so-little-and-there's-nothing-to-me, watch-me-have-nothing-to-me," she said of her character in the accompanying interview, "She feels like she's living in a movie of her own life. She's constantly on show, performing all the time. Nothing bad can happen in a dream. You can't die in a dream. She's in her own TV show. She's like a Kardashian." The search for an actress to play Daisy was well-documented at the time, with Keira Knightley and Blake Lively also thought to have been in with a chance. However, after her audition, even co-star Leonardo Dicaprio was smitten. "Leonardo turned to me and he goes, 'Well . . . I guess that's the Next Big Thing in acting," recalls director Luhrmann, "It was a very quick decision after that."

Mulligan, who is married to Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford, is best known for her work in Drive, An Education and Never Let Me Go. The Great Gatsby hits theaters in the U.S. On May 10, 2012. Watch the trailer below:

Brit Awards: Taylor Swift Flirts Up A STORM With Rizzle Kicks’ Jordan Stephens

Taylor Swift One Direction Harry Styles Carey Mulligan

Taylor Swift seemed to forget all about her millionaire ex-boyfriend Harry Styles at the Brit Awards after party on Wednesday (February 20, 2013), flirting up a storm with British musician Jordan Stephens, of pop duo Rizzle Kicks. The pair set tongues wagging as they danced and shared laughs at Universal Music’s official party, with Taylor holding her iPhone in one snap obtained by The Sun: did she take his number?

The antics came after news spread that Taylor and One Direction’s Harry were kept firmly apart at the Brits ceremony. They went their separate ways afterwards too, with Taylor heading to the Universal party and Harry partying with his band-mates at the Warner Music bash. As well as spending some alone time with Stephens, Taylor also managed to push James Corden off the decks at Soho House in London, showing off her DJ skills to a packed crowd.

In fact, the whole night seemed to be about Taylor as she moved around the room getting snaps with various luminaries of the music and film world. She buddied up with Ellie Goulding, took photos with Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford and mingled with others.

Mumford And Sons Tell Cynics To “F*ck Off”, But Does ‘Babel’ Stand Up To Scrutiny?

Mumford And Sons Carey Mulligan

Mumford And Sons have hit back at the folk purists who remain sceptical of their rootsy sound despite the band’s huge success on both sides of the Atlantic. The London-based group are set to return with new record ‘Babel’, which they claim will attract a different audience to those who bought and enjoyed ‘Sigh No More’.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, drummer Ben asserted, “The cynics can just all f*** off…We think this new record will attract a different audience which is really exciting. And broaden people’s view of us,” with bass guitarist Ted adding, “We have made so many sacrifices and we’ve not taken the easiest route…And so I hope people do understand where we are coming from because it’s a good place, not a capitalistic venture at all…We have made compromises…but it means integrity as everything we do is a conversation between the four of us.” The band have made huge inroads in the U.S market, something nudged along nicely by Marcus Mumford’s marriage to Hollywood star Carey Mulligan, though the group insist they have remained grounded, with Winston saying, “Basically it’s been four mates having the best three years of their lives… And that’s simply going to continue.”

Babel – the band’s second record on Island Records – hit stores on Monday (September 24, 2012). So far, the record has received positive reviews from critics, with the Guardian newspaper saying, “Essentially it's a honing of their 2009 debut, Sigh No More, but with more of the ferocity you encounter in their live show.”
