The reality show made its debut way back in 2002, and after fifteen seasons Fox is set to pull the plug.
At one point it was the most popular reality in U.S. TV history, but ‘American Idol’ is coming to an end. Fox announced today that the upcoming fifteenth season would be the final one.
At the peak of its popularity, ‘American Idol’ was watched by more than 30 million viewers, and helped launch the careers of the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks and Carrie Underwood. However, its ratings have waned over recent years, and Fox have decided to pull the plug.

Whilst her impact on the UK music market has been limited, Carrie Underwood is an indisputable star in her American homeland. The winner of 'American Idol' in 2005, she has gone on to release four albums and amassed sales figures of 64 million records. Amongst her haul of honours are six Grammys and 16 Billboard Music Awards, so it's safe to say she has avoided being a quickly forgotten talent show product.
Largely in chronological order, this collection features all of Underwood's singles with a few additional tracks for good measure. Certainly, it cannot be accused of being incomprehensive and is a solid introduction to the country-pop styling of the artist, a blend that has also had crossover success for Taylor Swift and Shania Twain amongst others. The majority of the output here is safe; some would say bland, radio-friendly efforts that showcase Underwood's undeniably impressive vocals. Unfortunately, it is rare for a track to go by without an apparent need to stretch that voice to higher echelons of warbling - new track 'Something In The Water' is a case in point. As with any competent mainstream pop album, there are songs which are simply infectious, with 'Wasted' being one of the better efforts and 'See You Again' also fitting the bill. When Underwood displays grittier attitude as she does on 'Before He Cheats' the result is actually worthy of further pursuit - the elements of country, soul and rock combining successfully for a number reminiscent of Christina Aguilera at her best. Unfortunately, the opposite end of the spectrum is in evidence more regularly, with 'Last Name' failing miserably to convince anyone that Underwood is really a bad girl, while 'Just A Dream' is nothing by dreary. There's no doubting her vocal ability talent, but the material representing the first decade of her career rarely excites, even if it has sold in impressive volumes.

Dodged a bullet there.
Carrie Underwood is one happy mom-to-be. And she wants you to know about it. The country singer, towards the tail end of her pregnancy, went on the Today show to talk about the experience of carrying a future human. To everyone’s surprise, Underwood apparently forgets she’s pregnant sometimes.
Pregnancy definitely suits Underwood.
"I'll just walk by a mirror...then I'll see myself and just start laughing," she told Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb. "My body's definitely not mine right now!"

The 31 year-old singer will executive produce the six-hour limited event series based her hit track, which revolves around a sinister love triangle.
Carrie Underwood's hit track 'Two Black Cadillacs' tells a very ominous story of two women seeking revenge of the same man after finding out they are both romantically involved with him, so it isn't a surprise that such a compelling plot is being adapted into a television show.

Underwood's tale of vengeance, murder and treachery has been picked up by Fox to be turned into a six-hour limited event series, according to Deadline.com. The 'American idol' alum is also going to team with Jerry Bruckheimer and executive produce the production, which is already in development.

The best album of the year? The reviewers think so.
Miranda Lambert naming her new album Platinum might turn out to be a self fulfilling prophesy. Not only is the record, which came out on Tuesday, already on top of the iTunes sales chart, the critics are in love as well. Lambert’s strength has always been in her clever lyrics, her fiery sound and, well, her sass. Fans will be happy to hear that, despite her being a married woman now, the sass is still strong with this one.
The new record shows a maturity that really suits Lambert, say reviewers.
Says Jamieson Cox of TIME Magazine: “Platinum doesn’t reinvent the wheel in any sense, but it doubles down on the qualities that have helped Lambert become one of country’s most reliable stars: broad, plain-spoken feminism, rousing choruses that split the difference between archetypal country and contemporary pop-rock, and frank, funny, fully realized depictions of the protagonist at the heart of these songs.

The network is going back to its roots for the festive period once again
NBC will hope to emulate the success they had over the 2013 seasonal period when they aired a live performance of The Sound of Music starring Carrie Underwood and Stephen Meyer. The show was a huge success for the network, earning strong viewer figures and a considerable amount of positive press, paving the way for another similar spectacle for the coming Christmas period: Peter Pan.
NBC took little time to announce its intentions to air another live, theatrical performance this coming Christmas-time, following the convincing success of The Sound of Music last month. At its peak, that performance scored more than 18 million viewers and held on to a strong amount of viewers for much of the telecast. Looking to capture similar audience figures again, the network have opted for a familiar story which translates from the stage to screen well and has a long history of multiple reconstructions. Peter Pan then seems like the ideal choice to keep this festive formula running.
NBC have announced that, after the success of their live production of 'The Sound of Music Live!', the network's next stage adaptation will be the beloved story of 'Peter Pan'.
The success of last December's live television stage production of 'The Sound of Music' has encouraged NBC to give it another crack. The next show will be the universally loved story of 'Peter Pan', the boy who can fly and never ages, and lives out his endless childhood in the fictional 'Neverland'.
The cast of NBC's 'The Sound of Music'
NBC entertainment chairman, Bob Greenblatt, took his chance at the 2014 winter Television Critics Association press tour, this past Sunday (Jan 19th), to reveal the network's future plans, and announced the adaptation of Broadway's 'Peter Pan' will be aired on December 4th.
Her first English-language album in six years peaked at No. 2 at the chart before plummeting, but a song with NeYo and an appearance on the NBC singing contest will hopefully rejuvenate sales
Celine Dion came back with a bang with her powerful single 'Loved Me Back to Life' and album of the same name, but whilst the album and single drew considerable buzz when it was released in October, people seem to have forgotten about Dion without much hassle. In a bid to rejuvenate interest in her singing and her first English-language record for six year, the Canadian singer is planning a double whammy just before Christmas.
Celine Dion released her third single, 'Incredible,' earlier this week
Having already heard the lead single form the album, Dion will give people another chance to hear what her album has to offer when she performs her collaborative effort with Ne-Yo, called 'Incredible,' on the season finale of The Voice. The pair will perform the mid-tempo album track on the Tuesday (17 December) finale, which airs on NBC 9 p.m. (ET/PT). As well as releasing the track as her third single from the album, Dion won't be done with the festive giving just there, as she also has another TV performance lined up after her appearance on The Voice.
Despite its imperfections, NBC's The Sound of Music managed to draw in an unprecedented audie
The Sound of Music Live with Carrie Underwood – it happened, now we have to deal with the fallout. Many musical theater buffs were apprehensive about this NBC adaptation of the classic, but was it really as terrible as expected? Underwood was cast as Maria von Trapp in what is arguably the most beloved musical of all times because of her musical talent and her stage presence – both qualities, which helped her through the show last night.
According to some reviewers, this version just couldn't capture the magic of the original.
In fact, ratings show that viewers loved NBC’s live adaptation. According to CNN, 18.4 million people tuned into the show last night and it earned a 4.6 average rating in the adult demographic, making it the highest rating NBC production since the cancellation of ER back in 2009.

Carrie Underwood is "proud" of her 'The Sound Of Music Live!' performance and responds to the heavy criticism she received by branding them "mean people."
NBC's live action television production of the 'The Sound Of Music' aired this Thursday (Dec 5th) and like every remake, the comparisons and critics were at full flow.
Carrie Underwood starred as 'Maria', the character Julie Andrews made iconic in the 1965 film, and although she feels proud of the production, the twitter world were very vocal in their criticisms.
"Plain and simple: Mean people need Jesus," the 30-year-old wrote via Twitter on Friday (Dec 6th). "They will be in my prayers tonight...1 Peter 2:1-25."
Kym Karath, who played Gretl Von Trapp in the 1965 film, has left thoroughly unimpressed by the Carrie Underwood-led performance
The live performance of The Sound of Music, aired on NBC earlier this week, was met with a mixed reception from audiences at home and critics alike, however the harshest piece of criticism may have been reserved until now. According to TMZ, one person was left particularly distraught after seeing Carrie Underwood's interpretation of Maria, with Kym Karath branding the performance as being "painful to watch."
Underwood struggled to win everyone over wieth her performance
Karath portrayed Gretl Von Trapp in the original 1965 movie version of the Rogers & Hammerstein musical and when she and former co-star Charmian Carr (who played Liesl Von Trapp) met up to watch the NBC live show this week, neither were expecting to be disappointed so thoroughly by the latest version of the production. Taking to Twitter, Karath said she was left "mystified and disappointed" by the remake, being particularly let down by Underwood's sub-par performance.
Carrie Underwood did her best in NBC's 'The Sound of Music,' but the show wasn't a complete success.
When NBC decided to produce a live-action version of The Sound of Music starring Carrie Underwood, they knew it would be a big risk. Live TV is always risky, and remaking a classic is even riskier.
Carrie Underwood Did Her Best in NBC's The Sound of Music
The show was pulled off Thursday night, without anyone falling or forgetting too many lines. But the reviews are mixed. It appears many people are applauding NBC for pulling off such a big task and Carrie Underwood for going along with it.
Critical and audience reception for the live broadcast has been mixed
The hills were alive last night, as NBC broadcast the live stage version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic stage show The Sound of Music. Favouring the original stage production over the 1965 movie version, the three hour showcase was one of the biggest talking points in America and managed to draw in a considerable audience number throughout its broadcast, but was it actually any good?
The show received a mixed reception from viewers and critics alike
The live broadcast was the second highest trending topic on micro-blogging site Twitter, falling just behind the death of former South Africa president and anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandella. On Twitter, audiences at home wrote of their approval or disapproval throughout the broadcast, with the overall view of the production being skewered down the middle as to whether it was any good. Some people loved it, and were particularly full of praise for Underwood, whilst others loathed the production, and were critical of the lead performance from the country star.
Carrie Underwood in 'The Sound of Music'? Not for everyone, but this might just work...
Carrie Underwood is doing The Sound of Music – those words probably send chills down a lot of people’s backs. After all, Underwood is a modern icon of country, The Sound of Music is a staple of musical theater and never the twain shall meet. Except they have and in fact, Underwood’s casting as Maria in the new adaptation for television makes a lot of sense.
Underwood does make a nice addition to the cast photo, at least.
Since winning American Idol in 2005, Underwood has gone on to win six Grammy awards and more than 100 other awards. Despite having only four acting credits to her name (mostly cameos) the country songstress has proven that she can pull off a great live show.
