Caveman Announce New Single 'In The City' Released 5th August 2013

Following its release through Fat Possum Records in the US (Youth Lagoon, Band of Horses, WAVVES), 'In The City' finds a release through Communion Records in the UK this Summer.

Caveman are a five piece from New York City. Fronted by Matthew Iwanusa, the five long-term friends committed their echo-laden, fuzz pop songs to tape, forming the basis of their self-released debut album, CoCo Beware, in 2011. The record was later re-released through Fat Possum in 2012, and has set the blueprint for the hazy, spiralling, guitar-heavy psychedelia that the band are cocooning themselves within today.

'In The City' is the first release from the forthcoming, self-titled, second album.

Caveman took themselves off to New Hampshire, writing and demo'ing in an attic bathed in Christmas fairy lights. CoCo Beware introduced a band with a penchant for the psychedelic, but the songs they created in its aftermath had a confidence and quality that reached far beyond what they had, individually and collectively, back in 2011.

"We all went up to James' (Carbonetti, guitarist) family's place, where this new record started. We'd all sit in a room together, and then one by one we'd go into the bathroom and record ourselves making the most psycho noises we could think of. It felt kind of like this weird breakthrough." Says Iwanusa.

Guitars are at the heart of what Caveman do, and in Carbonetti they have a guitarist who is renowned across New York's muso fraternity as one of the finest guitar builders in the city, hand-building his own instruments from scratch.

Following the sessions in New Hampshire, the band returned to Brooklyn's Rumpus Room Studios and began recording with Nick Stumpf (French Kicks). There are cursory nudges to Slowdive's expansive sonic sound encased around these gorgeous shimmering pop songs. The driving synth lines, and triple layered guitars have created something exciting and instant, with Iwanusa's vocal (a member of the MET opera in his youth) another crucial component to the song, an instrument in its own right.
Picking up editorial support from the likes of the New York Times, Fader, and  yourstru.ly, Caveman prepare their UK introduction with this irresistible dream-pop song.

Caveman are:  Jeff Berall - Bass, Backing Vocals. James Carbonetti - Guitar, Sam Hopkins - Keys, Backing Vocals. Matthew Iwanusa - Vocals, Guitar, Percussion. Stefan Marolachakis - Drums, Backing Vocals.
