All’s Well That Ends Well

(Equal Vision 28/07/2005)

Punk is demonstrating some metal andfighting back, finally, with the Flint, Michigan six piece; Chiodos led by Craig Owens, firmly on the front line. The prevailing mood on this effort is one ofmisunderstanding and darkness. A chilling piano element permeates the gripping ‘All Nereids Beware’ that slowly and creepily flows into an errant metallic onslaught. The lyrics add to the lurid nature of the track;

“Now her corpse lies lifeless, where X marks the spot.

At the bottom of the ocean floor, where X marks the spot.

The finest treasures are buried under waves.”

Mystery and resentment mingle together like seawater and pollution in ‘Expired In Goreville’ to add to the existing variety and spice. The album takes a reflective punk spirited turn in ‘Baby, You Wouldn’t Last A Minute On The Creek’ that contains contradiction and denial; afflictions that turn the screw on many a youth today. Chiodos have toured America more times than President Bush on the campaign trail, taking in the sights with revered acts like Yellowcard and Coheed and Cambria. This is due to the fact that Chiodos’ intensity, thoughtfulness and intricacies make an interesting bedfellow.
