The hotly anticipated comic book film has a great new trailer, watch it below.
Kick Ass was the surprise hit of 2010; the ultra-violent adaption from the comic book by Mark Miller was a cheap, successful movie, and now it’s back with an even bigger roster of stars, and is set to build upon the success of its predecessor.
Chloe Moretz Kicking Ass
Just in case you didn’t know, the original saw Aaron Johnson (Dave Lizewski) become a vigilante super hero called Kick Ass, fully unaware that Nicolas Cage (Damon MacReady) and Chloe Moretz (Mindy MacReady) were already protecting the city from criminals as Big Daddy and Hit Girl. They join forces to battle the criminal syndicate helmed by Christoper Mintz-Plasse’s father.
The Kick Ass 2 Posters look great
Kick Ass 2, as you can see by the trailer, heralds the arrival of other vigilante super heroes, ready to take on the task of protecting the city. They build up a super-group of equally brave and stupid people, including the biggest newcomer, Jim Carrey, who plays The Colonel.

“Here’s the thing about Jim and here’s why he is a big movie star and why I loved working with him, you never know what that guy is going to do or say,” explained director Jeff Wadlow to Slash Film. “That’s why we love him and I have incredible respect for him, but you never know what he’s going to do or say and for that reason he is fantastic in the movie and I encourage everyone to see the movie and see how great he is in it and you know, decide for themselves.”
Time to kick some ass... 2
One thing they didn’t except him to say is that he’s disowning the film due to his stance against violence in America, and has refused to promote the film, which, in turn, handed it a healthy amount of promotion for free.
Kick Ass and Hit Girl must summon up all their strength to death the bad guys
In the red-band trailer, we can see Hit Girl’s new situation – her (SPOILER) father has died, and she’s forced to endure the mundane entity that is school, conversing with Mean Girls-style fellow students and sometimes letting her untamed sense of violence free in conversation. She’s at in her Hit Girl getup, so to see her vulnerable adds depth to an already well-formed character.
Aaron Taylor Johnson and Christopher Mintz-Plasse square off in Kick Ass 2
The antagonist this time is Mintz-Plasse, who is out to seek revenge for the (COME ON YOU MUST HAVE GOT THIS BY NOW: SPOILER) death of his father. In the last film he played Red Mist, but now, according to various trailers, he wants to be known as The Mother F*****.
The Colonel refuses to use guns, while The Mother F***** will stop at nothing to get his way
While he’s assembling his army, though, a delicious caveat is revealed: the police are clamping down on ANYONE wearing a mask and claiming to be a super hero – meaning even our unlikely heroes have to avoid the law in order to fight for what’s right. It’s almost like they’re trying to say something about the justice system in America?
Bring it on.
One of the more hotly anticipated films of the recent Comic-Con expo, Kick Ass 2 is set to hit cinemas on August 16th in the U.S and August 14th in the U.K.
