Chris Hemsworth And Idris Elba Take Over Tom Hiddleston's TV Choice Award Speech

Chris Hemsworth Tom Hiddleston Idris Elba

Poor Tom Hiddleston. He landed his first award for 'The Night Manager' last night (September 5th 2016) at the TV Choice Awards, but he was immediately mocked for his win by his 'Thor' co-stars Chris Hemsworth and Idris Elba as he delivered a message via video link.

Tom Hiddleston and Chris HemsworthTom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth are total buddies

He's seen numerous nominations for his part in the BBC drama, including at the Emmys, but it's only now Tom Hiddleston has managed to scoop his first prize as Best Actor at the TV Choice Awards. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to attend the awards ceremony himself, given that he was down under filming 'Thor: Ragnorok', but he did rise in the early hours of the morning to deliver his acceptance speech.

'I'm so sorry I can't be there tonight, I'm sure you all look lovely', he said. 'I'm in Australia, I'm shooting 'Thor: Ragnorok', I don't really have anything to offer you.'

After that, he was joined by Chris Hemsworth and Idris Elba, who proceeded to manhandle the award and tease their friend about his win. 'Oh, is that for us? For 'Home & Away', yeah?' Joked Chris. 'Thanks everyone at Channel 7, I loved working on 'Home & Away'.'

Idris was a little harsh, examining the trophy and saying: 'Oh man, that's really awful, isn't it? What's this for?' He went on to ask why his detective series 'Luther' didn't get nominated and gave a nod to Tom's co-star Hugh Laurie. 'Hugh - you were amazing in 'The Night Manager'', he said.

'Chris and Idris are super happy about it and so am I so thank you very much', Tom said in his attempt to continue. 'Loved being 'The Night Manager', loved making 'The Night Manager'.'

'Home & Away' rocks! And so does 'The Night Manager'', Chris said before disappearing out of the frame.

Tom beat 'Doctor Who' star Peter Capaldi, 'Downton Abbey''s Jim Carter and Cillian Murphy from 'Peaky Blinders' to the Best Actor prize, while Sarah Lancashire from 'Happy Valley' got Best Actress. 'The Night Manager' did, however, lose to 'Doctor Foster' in the Best New Drama category.

In The Heart Of The Sea Review

Excellent

With a huge budget and a relatively small story, this is an intriguingly offbeat blockbuster that might struggle to find an audience. Basically, it's aimed at fans of more thoughtful, personal stories of tenacity and survival, but it's shot with a massive special effects budget that sometimes seems to swamp the drama. Still, it's involving and moving. And it's also fascinatingly based on the true events that inspired Moby Dick.

The story is framed in 1850 as novelist Herman Melville (Ben Whishaw) visits an ageing sailor named Tom (Brendan Gleeson) to quiz him about a momentous event in his past that he has never spoken of. Flash back to 1820 Nantucket, and Tom (Tom Holland) is a rookie crew member on the whaling ship Essex, working under the posh, privileged Captain George (Benjamin Walker) and his able but low-class first mate Owen (Chris Hemsworth). As these these two leaders clash against each other, the ship sails off for what will be a very long journey. Eventually they head into the Pacific in search of a mythical pod of whales. But when they find it, they run afoul of a gigantic white whale that takes their arrival personally, sinking their ship and pursuing the survivors in their lifeboats.

All of this is staged as an epic battle between humanity and nature, with layers of interest in the way these men strain to survive against unimaginable odds. It's a riveting story, beautifully shot and rendered with immersive effects. And the cast members create complex characters who are profoundly changed by their experience. Not only is there mammoth action, but there's plenty of barbed interaction and even some strongly emotional moments that bring the themes home to a modern audience. Sometimes this aspect feels a bit corny, as clearly whalers at the time wouldn't feel remorse about killing one of these majestic creatures. But we would.

Marvel Unveils Fierce New Thor Incarnation…And She’s A Lady

Marvel has caused waves within the comic book communities after revealing their dynamic new incarnation of Thor, who just happens to be a woman. Retaining the Norse god's punchy moniker, the new Thor will be a no-half-measures superhero and a permanent replacement as the one and only hammer-wielder.

"[T]his new Thor isn't a temporary female substitute - she's now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy" said editor Wil Moss. The new comic written by Jason Aaron, with art by Russell Dauterman will launch this fall, after we discover that the original God of Thunder loses the ability to wield his signature weapon, Mjölnir.

"This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is Thor. This is the Thor of the Marvel Universe. But it's unlike any Thor we've ever seen before," explained Aaron.

Thor 2 continued to dominate the weekend box office this week, because of course it did. Thor: The Dark World almost became the top grossing November release of all time this weekend when it managed to bring in an estimated $86 million in the domestic market since its Friday (Nov 8) release in the USA. It narrowly missed out on beating the record set by Skyfall in 2012, but its numbers are nonetheless a fantastic result for studio bosses at Marvel and Disney.

Chris Hemsworth is back as the God of Thunder

Benefiting from the global blockbuster that was Marvel's The Avengers, much like Iron Man 3 did earlier this year, the estimated weekend takings of Thor 2 prove that there is still a great deal of life left in the superhero genre and despite lukewarm reviews, the film still has a keen and dedicated audience. The domestic performance from Thor 2 mirrors the similar successes enjoyed by the film in the international market, where it has already grossed $240.9 million. Thor was released a week earlier in a number of key international markets, including the United Kingdom and Australia, and has continued to perform well overseas.

Tom Hiddleston On Playing An Ever Evolving Loki In "Thor: The Dark World"

Tom Hiddleston Chris Hemsworth

Tom Hiddleston might play one of the now iconic villains of the Marvel-verse, but the charitable actor actually has little in common with his character in Thor: The Dark World. This past Halloween, Hiddleston took the chance to get in touch with his youngest fans, appearing in full Loki garb before an audience of 300 children at a recent special Halloween screening of Thor: The Dark World. For USA Today, the actor explained that he loves reconnecting with his youngest fans, because they put everything into perspective.

The movie and especially Hiddleston's character have been a constant news item for the past two weeks.

"Sometimes it's easy to forget that's who we're doing it for," Hiddleston says. "It really brought home to me what a privilege it is to occupy a place in this particular universe. When you hear the pleasure and delight of children, it makes it all worth it."

Box Office Preview: Thor Should Smash Box Office With His Hammer [Trailer]

Chris Hemsworth Tom Hiddleston Natalie Portman

It’s not that Thor: The Dark World is a particularly brilliant film – the indifferent reviews put an end to that kind of talk – but probably the lack of meaningful competition that mean this weekend will be Marvel-centric. Chris Hemsworth and his chums should clean up.

The plot takes place after the events of Marvel’s Thor and Marvel’s Avenger’s. Thor is trying to restore peace across the cosmos, but an ancient race – lead by Malekith – have other ideas, and intend to restore the universe to its previous state of darkness. Finally, Thor: The Dark World hits U.S cinemas tonight after months of build up, trailers, pictures and reviews. Without much competition, the film is expected to clean up this weekend’s box office with aplomb, but will you be handing over your hard-earned cash for Marvel’s latest blockbuster?

Marvel are certainly going through a purple patch; they built upon the success of 2012’s The Avengers – the third highest grossing movie of all time – with more solid efforts, like this year’s The Wolverine. And while they haven’t hit the heights of Joss Whedon’s ensemble masterpiece, things are rumbling along nicely.

A Confident Overseas Performance Indicates Domestic Bliss For 'Thor 2: The Dark World'

Disney have had some troubling releases in the past few years, with potential blockbusters (we won't name names) bombing tremendously when they came to the big screen. Its a good thing that the Marvel branch of their movie operations is performing so well then, as the latest Disney/Marvel release, Thor 2: The Dark World, has already made a sizeable impression on the overseas market since it was released last week.

Opening in the UK and France on Wednesday, 30 October, and other major markets Australia and Germany a day later, the film was the runaway winner at the weekend box office in each of these foreign markets and early predictions have estimated that the film could have made up to $100 million already. According to Box Office Mojo, the film has made an estimated $109,400,000 from foreign markets since it was released last week. When the film opens in the US on 8 November, there is a good chance that it could match this kind of popular reception and go on to make a hefty amount in the box office by the end of its run.

Chris Hemsworth Tom Hiddleston

It’s out. It’s here! Thor: The Dark World is finally in cinemas as of last Wednesday (in the UK and Europe) or Friday (in the US), and it is one of, if not the most buzz-worthy release of the season. Good or bad, that’s for moviegoers to decide on their own, but without spoiling anything for you, this might be the film in which we’ve seen Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki act more brotherly than ever. Maybe it’s that special bond that forms after doing three whole movies together or maybe it’s something else.

Tom Hiddleston has garnered a reputation as being one of the kindest gentlemen you would be lucky enough to run in to. Whether he's tackling poverty, giving kids a lift on his shoulders for the sake of it, bringing people soup or just generally being a good guy, the man sets an example across celeb-dom of how you should behave. So when it came time for him to choose between staying in London and partying with his Thor co-stars following the premiere of Thor: The Dark World, or flying across to New York City to surprise kids at an advanced charity screening of the film, you can bet he chose the latter.

Thor: The Dark World Review

Excellent

Marvel can't help itself: these movies have to get bigger and crazier. And this one leaves us wondering where they can possibly go next, as it spirals into a madly funny-scary thriller that threatens the existence of the whole universe. But it also feels like a story children would make up as they go along. Still, the sparky characters and wildly cataclysmic approach are hugely entertaining.

The action picks up right after the Battle of New York (see 2012's The Avengers), and scientist Jane (Portman) is miffed that Thor (Hemsworth) didn't call when he was back on Earth. She has just started dating a nebbish Londoner (O'Dowd) when her assistant Darcy (Dennings) stumbles into a spatial anomaly that draws Jane right into the middle of a 5,000-year-old struggle between Thor's home-realm Asgard and the dark elf Malekith (Eccleston), who wants to use a swirling goo called the Aether to plunge all of existence into blackness just as the universe aligns itself. As this convergence approaches, Thor defies his father Odin (Hopkins) and turns to his disgraced, malicious brother Loki (Hiddleston) for help.

The film is overcrowded with small but pivotal characters, including stern but helpful gatekeeper Heimdall (Elba), mad-doctor Erik (Skarsgard) and Odin's wise wife Frigga (Russo). All of them help distract us from the movie's wildly shifting tone as it darts from sardonic comedy to Lord of the Rings-style battles to silly romance to dark emotion. But the best thing is the tense, unpredictable relationship between Thor and Loki, an enjoyable mixture of sibling rivalry and brotherly love that's well-played by Hemsworth and especially Hiddleston. None of the other characters really has a chance to develop around them. But at least the actors have fun with their roles, including a number of hilarious cameos along the way (there are also two post-credit stings).

'Rush' Amazes Critics With High-Octane Rivalry: Was 1970s Racing Really That Dangerous?

Ron Howard Daniel Bruhl Chris Hemsworth

Racing movie Rush has premiered in the US and UK and has drawn the crowds, rising to the top of the week's box office charts in the UK and garnering positive critical attention. Though the movie focusses on the famous rivalry between 1970s Formula 1 Racing drivers - Britain's James Hunt and Austria's Niki Lauda - the storyline has been praised for rendering its mechanical detail and sporting emotions accessible to those who have little to no interest in racing.

Rush
The Movie Centres On The Rivalry Between James Hunt & Niki Lauda.

The movie excels in its building of the tension between the two drivers, played by Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl, as well as the high level of drama built up around what has been described as the golden era of racing. The drama of the sport is even emphasised in the trailer, where Brühl as Lauda declares "I accept every time I get in my car there's 20% chance I could die."

Howard has admitted he knew nothing about the Hunt/Lauda rivalry of the seventies until he was handed a script by Frost/Nixon writer, Peter Morgan. Morgan's skilful screenwriting wouldn't have been enough to carry the movie on its own though; Rush needed a passionate force in the driving seat. Howard explained to the Wall Street Journal about the spark he saw in the real-life story, and how he planned to turn it into a movie that film fans aside from gearheads could relate to.

Rush Review

Excellent

Exhilarating racing action punctuates this true story, which sharply traces the rivalry between two Formula One champs. It's superbly well-shot and edited, with engaging performances from the entire cast. And with only one moment of calculated sentimentality, it's director Ron Howard's most honest movie in years.

The story begins in the early 1970s, when two rising-star F1 drivers clash over their very different styles. Britain's James Hunt (Hemsworth) is a swaggering womaniser, revelling in the rock-star lifestyle. By contrast, Austria's Niki Lauda (Bruhl) is a fiercely detailed technician who loves pushing barriers. They clearly see things they like in each other, so their different approaches on the track develop into a competitive relationship that spurs them to the front of the pack. Over the years, both meet their wives (Wilde and Lara, respectively) and move from team to team as they rise to the top of their sport. And their rivalry comes to a head at the 1976 German Grand Prix when world champion Lauda is involved in a horrific, fiery accident.

Morgan's script is essentially two biopics cleverly woven together to let us see the push and pull between these two iconic figures. Unexpectedly, Bruhl's Lauda emerges as the stronger character, with his grounded approach and sardonic wit allowing Bruhl to play effectively with submerged emotions. By contrast, Hemsworth's Hunt is little more than a gifted good-time boy who isn't worried about his lack of substance. It's a likeable, loose performance (we barely notice the wobbly British accent). Opposite them Lara and Wilde provide solid, subtle support, as do the fine actors who fill out the pit crews.

Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth Split After Brothers Stage Intervention

Miley Cyrus Liam Hemsworth Chris Hemsworth Luke Hemsworth January Jones

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have split, just weeks after the actor's brothers Chris Hemsworth and Luke Hemsworth staged an intervention with their young sibling, raising concerns about his engagement to the pop singer. Now, according to multiple sources who spoke with Us Weekly, the pair have ended their relationship and will no longer be tying the knot.

"They are definitely over," one insider close to the ex-lovebirds reveals this week. The pair met on the set of romantic drama The Last Song in 2009 and got engaged last summer when Hemsworth pulled out a 3.5-carat diamond ring for his wife to be. The split comes after months of tension between the pair, which culminated with Liam being spotted leaving the Chateau Marmont with Mad Men actress January Jones following a pre-Oscar party on February 23, 2013. Prior to that, the Hunger Games actor had regrouped with his family in Australia while rumors of a split swirled in Los Angeles.

Despite the reports, Miley, 20, shared a picture of herself on Twitter wearing what appears to be a wedding dress. The picture was taken the same day that she shot her new video - according to The Sun - therefore it could be for a wedding scene and not her actual dress.

New 'Thor: The Dark World' Poster Emerges! [Picture]

Chris Hemsworth

A new poster and details about the forthcoming Thor film starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman have emerged, with Thor battling once again to save Earth and all of the Nine Realms from an enemy that’s existed since before the universe itself. Sounds like a pretty task to us that.

According to a statement released by the film’s studio Marvel “In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos...but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.”

Sounds suitably epic to us. You can have a look at Chris Hemsworth looking suitably epic and that with his hammer below on the poster. Elsewhere, the Metro have reported that two new contrasting images from filming have been made public, with one showing Thor having a good old chuckle with Natalie Portman’s Jane as they both stand in costume. Another shows Hemsworth once again looking moody while holding his hammer. What can we devise from this? That Thor is a light-hearted amiable chap who takes home DIY very seriously indeed, we reckon.

Following the relatively disappointing 'The Dilemma', Oscar wining director Ron Howard is back with his latest movie 'Rush', an biographical flick about the rivalry between Formula One drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauder during the 1976 motor racing season. Set against the backdrop of the 'golden age' of the sport, the story certainly lends itself well to the big screen, with the handsome English playboy Hunt attempting to outdo his methodical, driven opponent Lauda. Off course, there's focus on the driver's personal lives though ultimately Howard's latest movie explores how far each sportsman will push to be hailed world champion in a sport where one mistake could be fatal.

The movie boasts a pretty slick looking cast, with Hollywood favourites Chris Hemsworth (Hunt) and Olivia Wilde (Suzy Miller) in the forefront and the brilliant Daniel Bruhl playing Lauda. The movie was shot on location in the UK, Germany and Austria with some scenes filmed at the former World War II airfield of Blackbushe Airport in Hampshire. Kent racing track Brands Hatch also features, as does Nurburgring in Germany. Howard described the period as a "fascinating, sexy, dangerous time," telling Colldier.com, ".it's based on a true story and it's centered around the 1976 Formula One race season. It operates on so many different levels that I really need to use the medium, in pre-production, production and post-production, to try to immerse the audiences in that world, "adding, "So, while Peter Morgan has written the script, and it's emotional, funny and character-driven, first and foremost, I think that the sense of the time, the place, the world, the speed and the danger of it."

Rush Trailer

James Hunt is English Formula 1 champion well-known for his hedonistic life of women, alcohol and parties and who makes for a stark contrast to his number one rival, the Austrian Niki Lauda. It's the 70s, the golden age for racing, and the pair are riled up to outrun each other in the upcoming 1976 German Grand Prix. However, no-one could predict the tragedy that would soon ensue when Lauda's car fails and bursts into flames on the track, causing him severe burns to his face and body. Hunt blames himself for the accident, as he helped encourage the race to go ahead without the suggested safety arrangements. In spite of all this, the pair are determined to become champions, against all odds but as the professional lives interrupts their personal lives, becoming a champion becomes much more complicated than just winning a race.

'Rush' is a sports drama based on the shocking true story of these two real F1 drivers when their lives took a dramatic turn at the height of car racing. It has been directed by Ron Howard ('Willow', 'Apollo 13', 'The Da Vinci Code') and written by Peter Morgan ('The Queen', 'The Other Boleyn Girl', 'The Last King of Scotland'), and it is set for release this autumn on September 13th 2013.

It Is Time To Accept Miley Cyrus And Liam Hemsworth Have Split?

Miley Cyrus Liam Hemsworth Chris Hemsworth

Rumors that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have split are reaching fever pitch, with most appearing to accept that - although the pair are regular tabloid fodder - the recent spate of speculation is too intense to be mere conjecture. Multiple sources told the New York Post's Page Six that Cyrus and Hemsworth have decided to end their relationship. "Miley and Liam are done; it's over," one insider said, "She likes to party really hard and can be pretty wild. It became a problem for him."

That appears to be at odds with stories circulating last week, which suggested Hemsworth partied with Mad Men actress January Jones after the Oscars, while Miley was...well, nowhere to be seen. "They have broken up before, and are broken up again now. There was drama because she suspected he had a wandering eye. And she recently tweeted a denial that he cheated," another source told Page Six. "While Miley has insisted they are still together, right now they are very, very much apart." It's true that Cyrus tweeted her wedding was still on, though her recent posts have been cryptic and it appears strange that the outspoken actress is yet to shoot down the latest rumors.

Cyrus is still in Los Angeles, though Hemsworth is on the other side of the world, visiting brother Chris Hemsworth and sister-in-law Elsa Pataky, according to Us Weekly. Why hasn't Miley travelled too? "It doesn't mean that they have split. Miley says they are still together," a source said. "Liam did fly home [to Australia on March 1] so they could have a break."

50 Shades Of Grey Film Rumour #998 - Chris Hemsworth And Krysten Ritter

Chris Hemsworth Krysten Ritter

Before 50 Shades of Grey had even been commissioned for the big screen, fans of the book were discussing who they'd want to see play Christian Grey, one of the two central characters of the book. Having become one of the most read books of the decade, it is quickly becoming one of the most talked about films and more and more rumours keep finding their way into the mill. The latest two to hit are about Chris Hemsworth and Krysten Ritter.

According to the International Business Times, the race is now between the star of Thor, Hemsworth, and Stephen Amell from Arrow. Apparently, Hemsworth's foray in upcoming movie Rush, in which he has a number of nude scenes, has persuaded the 50 Shades producers that he'd be ideal. Having been questioned about it though, it appears he remains unsure and unenthused at the prospect.

In contrast however, Krysten Ritter from Breaking Bad has expressed her interest in the project via Twitter. In a retweet and reply to a twitter user she said she's be 'down for' playing Ana.

Red Dawn Trailer

Jed Eckert is a marines soldier visiting his police officer father and football playing younger brother Matt. All seems well in their normal American town before the blackout. There is a sudden mass powercut across a large chunk of the country and before long, a squadron of aircrafts fill the sky with hundreds of North Korean soldiers parachuting from them. It's an invasion rendering the country powerless and under the threat of a powerful weapon that the Korean government has somehow obtained. Jed and Matt's father order them to hide out in a small cabin that they own in the wilderness; they do so and gather a group of likeminded teenagers along the way. Their father gets captured by the military forces while they hide and he uses a megaphone to bravely tell his sons to kill the soldiers holding him prisoner and he is subsequently shot and killed. The teenagers later find the cabin has been torched and Jed vows to fight back. The others join him and call themselves the Wolverines after their high school mascot. They make plans, along with experienced American soldiers, to steal back the weapon and win back their homeland.

Snow White And The Huntsman Review

Weak
There's an oddly over-serious tone to this fairy tale, as if the filmmakers thought they were making a massive action epic on par with The Lord of the Rings. But the plot has all the complexity of, well, a bedtime story. And a little more camp attitude would have helped.

After the gorgeous Ravenna (Theron) marries and then murders a benevolent widower king, she locks his beautiful daughter Snow White (Stewart) in a tower.

All the better to continue draining the youth from the entire kingdom. But just as she prepares to take the now of-age Snow's heart, Snow escapes into the woods, and Ravenna hires huntsman Eric (Hemsworth) to find her. Of course, Eric switches sides when he finds her, joining with Snow's childhood sweetheart William (Claflin) and a gang of dwarves to end the evil queen's reign.

The Avengers Review

Excellent
Like four action movies mashed into one, it's often difficult to know where to look while watching this busy blockbuster. It takes a while to get going, but once writer-director Whedon hits his stride, the film rockets through a series of frantically entertaining set pieces.

When mischievous Loki (Hiddleston) steals the tesseract from top-secret agency Shield, director Nick Fury (Jackson) and his sidekicks (Gregg and Smulders) call in their superheroes: Tony (Downey), Steve (Evans), Natasha (Johansson), Bruce (Ruffalo) and Clint (Renner), better known as Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, the Hulk and Hawkeye. And Loki's brother Thor (Hemsworth) also turns up. But calling them a team is misleading, as they find it tricky to put rivalries and mistrust aside to save the world from Loki's apocalyptic plan.

The Cabin In The Woods Review

Excellent
The script for this horror romp is almost too inventive, cleverly combining clashing genres and playing hilariously with a range of cliches while thoroughly grossing out the audience. It's certainly a riot of fun to watch, even if it's not actually that scary.

Taking a break from her pre-med studies, Dana (Connolly) heads off to a mountain cabin with her flatmate Jules (Hutchison), their stoner pal Marty (Kranz) and Jules' muscle-jock boyfriend Curt (Hemsworth), who has invited his friend Holden (Williams) as a possible date for Dana. But they have no idea that two sardonic businessmen (Jenkins and Whitford) are managing an elaborate underground operation during which they are manipulating everything about the cabin. And it starts to become clear that, to save the world, all five young people must die in the correct order.
