Chris Hemsworth has played the part of Norse mythological god, Thor, since Marvel’s first film about the comic character in 2011 and has continued to wave his hammer about during two successive standalone features and two Avenger movies.

However, the actor has said he has got "bored" of his character and asked Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige if he could do something different with the God of Lightening.

The third film featuring the 34-year-old actor - Thor: Ragnaork - is set to be released this weekend (3 Nov) but Hemsworth has admitted he hadn’t been “giving everything” to the role.

Female First reported Hemsworth speaking about the role and he said: "Even prior to the script I called Kevin and I said, 'I got to do something different. I'm so bored of myself. I don't think I'm giving everything."

"I said, 'You've got to give me the opportunity to do something different,' and he was incredibly receptive and agreed and that set a bit of tone to the script and Taika [Waititi] came in and had the same ideas.

"It was the most fun, I think, I've had playing this character."

Thor: Ragnarok - directed by Taika Waititi - follows Thor in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela (Cate Blanchett) from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.

At one point the hammer-wielding hero finds himself in a deadly contest that pits him against the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), his fellow Avenger.

Hemsworth said he loved his scenes with Hulk actor, Ruffalo - who normally plays a fellow protagonist.

The movie marks the first time a female villain has been the main antagonist in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie and the film also has the first LGBT character in the MCU, Valkyrie played by Tessa Thompson.
