The young star was trying to play down his acting credentials while studying at Boston College in 1990, but all was revealed when Streisand called with some bad news.

"I was living with some random people I didn't know very well and I hadn't told anyone I had been making films because I wanted to know everybody without being the guy who made the films," Chris explained during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live! on Thursday (14Apr16).

"I'm at the library and I come home and my roommate goes, 'Oh hey, D, uh, Barbra Streisand called you!' I go, 'OK man, thanks'. He goes, 'What's up with that?'"

Barbra agreed to call back the following day to speak to O'Donnell, who recalled, "The entire hall was waiting to answer the phone."

Chris had auditioned to play Streisand's son in the movie, which she also directed. The part eventually went to Jason Gould, the actress/singer's real-life son, and the actor admits the memory of speaking to Barbra on the phone still haunts him.

The NCIS: Los Angeles star's career didn't exactly suffer following Streisand's snub - he landed a role opposite Al Pacino in 1992's Scent of a Woman and went on to star in hit films Batman & Robin, Circle of Friends and The Three Musketeers. But he has never worked with Streisand.
