Chris Pratt Backtracks On 'Blue Collar America' Comments

Chris Pratt

Hollywood hunk Chris Pratt has backtracked on remarks he made about “blue-collar” stories being unrepresented in the American film industry, admitting that it was a “pretty stupid thing to say”.

The 37 year old actor was making comments about the nature of Hollywood and the kinds of stories being portrayed on the silver screen, and was pulled up on comments he made about working class America being under-represented.

“I don’t see personal stories that necessarily resonate with me, because they’re not my stories,” the actor told Men’s Fitness last week while promoting his new movie, Marvel’s next blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

'Guardians Of The Galaxy' - Marvel's New Super Franchise?

Chris Pratt Zoe Saldana Vin Diesel Bradley Cooper Dave Bautista

Guardians of the Galaxy was given a big platform to live up to before its official release with many calling the tenth Marvel instalment the best in the collection yet. First view critics were impressed with the look of the film and its special effects, the acting ensemble and the humour and comic play in it that is not always found in a Marvel superhero film. Even Jim Starlin, the comic book creator of villain Thanos, waded in, calling it Marvel’s best movie so far.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Review

Extraordinary

By refusing to follow the usual formula, filmmaker James Gunn has made Marvel's best-yet movie, a summer action-adventure that provides more cinematic fun than the rest of the year's blockbusters rolled into one. It's shamelessly entertaining, keeping the focus on sparky characters even as the action spirals into exhilarating set-pieces around them. And the best thing is that the film isn't actually about the big plot: it's about a group of people who should hate each other but instead come together as a team.

In a pre-logo sequence set in 1988 America, a young boy is kidnapped by aliens. Some 25 years later, Peter (Chris Pratt) has become an ace thief who roams the galaxy in search of cash. Curious and charming, he can get himself out of most scrapes, but when he collects a mysterious orb for a client he ends up as the target of two bounty hunters, the raccoon-like Rocket and tree-like Groot (voiced by Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel). And the villainously destructive Ronan (Lee Pace) sends his best fighter Gamora (Zoe Saldana) to get the orb for his own nefarious plan. Rounded up and thrown into prison, Peter, Gamora, Rocket and Groot stage a daring escape with the help of literal-minded muscleman Drax (Dave Bautista), then must work together to deal with this troublesome orb. So they contact Peter's mentor/nemesis Yondu (Michael Rooker) before taking on Ronan and his second-best fighter, Gamora's half-cyborg sister Nebula (Karen Gillan).

Gunn gives the film a look and tone unlike anything in the Marvel universe, with colourful ships, sassy humour and freewheeling action that propels the story and deepens the character at the same time. It also makes the most of the well-worn 1980s mixtape Peter uses as his own personal soundtrack. It's the kind of riotously thrill ride that makes us hold on for dear life, loving every twist and turn. And since it's so tightly focused on the characters, the action plot involving the orb merely adds texture around the edges. As do terrific actors like Glenn Close and John C. Reilly in small but pivotal roles.

It’s been a well-documented rise to fame for Chris Pratt – the guy who used to carve out sections of his Reebok classics because he couldn’t afford new ones that fit. Now, he leads an all star cast in Marvel’s latest multi-movie deal, and if the reviews are anything to go by, he’s got himself a franchise to be proud of.

Chris PrattChris Pratt executing part of the part-plan he has partly figured out

"What's really nice about this movie is that I believe we did something that's never been done before ... So, maybe people wouldn't have seen me in this role, but that's because they weren't able to have the vision that James [Gunn, director] had for what this could be,” explained Pratt to Collider.

London’s Leicester Square played host to the Guardian of The Galaxy premiere last night. The latest Marvel adventure has been attracting strong praise for the critics ahead of what is expected to be a big box office weekend for action-comedy.

“They're the thieves, the bounty hunters and the neglected”, explains Zoe Saldana of their characters in this featurette. “It's not a typical superhero movie.” Chris Pratt – who plays the ‘hero’ role, adds: “Peter Quill is the only human in this crazy world. He doesn't have superhuman strength or the abillity to fly but he uses his cunning and his charm to get himself out of situations.” Finally, Bradley Cooper – who plays a machine gun-wielding Racoon, Rocket - spoke highly of the melding of genres, both action and comedy. “There's a lot of humour in this one and a lot of heart. There's nothing like it, that's for sure.”

The film’s stars, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, John C. Reilly, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Benicio Del Toro, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Rooker, Dave Bautista, Laura Haddock, Glenn Close, Ophelia Lovibond, Peter Serafinowicz and Melia Kreiling – amongst others – were in attendance at the glitzy London premiere last night. The Critics LOVE "Guardians Of The Galaxy". All Of Them.

Chris Pratt Zoe Saldana

After intense promotion from Marvel over the past six months, Guardians of the Galaxy is out in cinemas next week, but not before the critics get their say. This time, it’s a resounding yes, as the acting, the story and most of all the visuals of Guardians get the reviewers’ approval.

Chris Pratt, Guardians of the Galaxy
Marvel made a gamble with Chris Pratt and it's paying off big time.

According to Forbes’ Scott Mendelson, “writer/director James Gunn and co-writer Nicole Perlman’s Guardians of the Galaxy is an absolutely crackling action-adventure film, a dazzling and engaging bit of optimistic sci-fi melodrama.” As for the story, which is usually a strong point of Marvel’s brand of superhero action,  there is “inventive spectacle to spare, but it remains rooted in character chemistry and successful broad-strokes storytelling that makes the action beats count as more than visceral moments.

Prepare to check out the new trailer for the upcoming summer blockbuster, Guardians of the Galaxy, which is due to open from the end of July. In a nutshell, Pratt's adventurer, Peter Quill, gets stranded in space and unites a team of unlikely ex-con aliens in order to mount a defence against the cosmic threat of Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Trailer

Peter Quill runs into some trouble when he discovers an unusual looking orb that happens to be hunted by the merciless admiral Ronan and his army of miscreants. He is an Earthling; an unusual race within his neighbourhood in which he grew up after being removed for his home planet as a child. Naming himself the Star-Lord, he likes to think he's one heck of a superhero - but he's about to meet his match (or should we say 'matches'?). After being arrested by Ronan's people, he is greeted by four other alien outlaws. First there is the enormous Drax the Destroyer who is determined to use his supernatural strength to avenge his murdered family; then there's cyborg Gamora, the daughter of Thanos (an even bigger villain in this story); Rocket, a psychotic gun-toting raccoon; and half-man half-tree Groot. They may be distrustful of each other, but they've got to stick together if they want to save the universe from certain annihilation.

Since when did superhero films have to be serious? Marvel apply comedy to comics with 'Guardians Of The Galaxy', which is based on the original comics by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. The movie has been directed  by James Gunn ('Super', 'Slither', 'PG Porn') and co-written by Nicole Perlman and is due for UK release on July 31st 2014.

Peter Quill is a fearless Earthling pilot who rather proudly proclaims himself to be an outlaw, going by the nickname Star-Lord. As a child, he was taken from his home planet and forced to live around various alien races, but even he is in for a surprise when he is captured by merciless hunters led by the evil admiral Ronan after he tries to make off with an extraordinary orb. It is during his imprisonment that he meets four other intrepid outlaws. There’s Drax the Destroyer, a man of muscle hellbent on avenging the tragic murders of his family; Gamora, a green-skinned cyborg who is the rebellious daughter of Ronan’s boss Thanos; Rocket, a genetically modified raccoon with incredible firearm dexterity; and Groot, a half-man half-tree creature who knows little about the technological world. Despite their reluctance, the five must join together to save the universe from Thanos’ dastardly plans.

Her Review

Extraordinary

With only a hint of a futuristic setting, Spike Jonze takes a remarkably honest look at human emotions as a man and his computer's intelligent operating system fall madly in love with each other. Utterly grounded in believable characters and situations, this is a boldly inventive exploration of how we connect with each other. It's also one of the most involving, witty and evocative movies of the year.

It's set just a few years into the future, when we've essentially done away with keyboards and talk to our phones and computers. So Theodore (Phoenix) works in a company that writes letters for people who want a more tactile way of communicating. While trying not to let his recent divorce from Caroline (Mara) influence his work, his friends (Adams and Letscher) set him up on a blind date with a sexy woman (Wilde). But he's not quite ready to move on until he begins opening up to his new interactive operative system, which calls herself Samantha (voiced by Johansson). And she has such an open-hearted personality that Theodore can't help but fall for her.

The film has a breezy, fable-like tone that allows heavy themes to emerge without weighing us down. Indeed, the central idea is that relationships are difficult because we can't help but evolve individually, which sometimes means drifting apart. Obviously, this has huge ramifications when your partner is a limitless computer mind that will never stop expanding. But Theodore doesn't want to think about this; he is frightened by the idea that Samantha is changing. Yes, despite the vaguely surreal premise, the film is packed with things we readily identify with.

The Lego Movie Review

Excellent

Inventive visuals and a seriously deranged script make this animated adventure far more enjoyable than we expect, especially as it brings out the childish creativity in everyone watching. Filmmakers Lord and Miller are experts at finding offbeat comedy in the most surprising places (see Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs or 21 Jump Street). And this movie is often jaw-droppingly entertaining.

It's set in a Lego city where construction worker Emmet (voiced by Pratt) follows instructions to the letter. Like everyone else, he has been lulled into complacency by President Business (Ferrell), whose inanely catchy pop songs (the insanely hummable Everything Is Awesome!) and mindless TV shows (Where Are My Pants?) keep people from thinking creatively. He's also concocting an insidious plan involving a secret weapon called the Kragle. Then Emmet inadvertently discovers the Piece of Resistance and is declared "The Special" by the underground rebel alliance led by Wyldstyle (Banks) and Vitruvius (Freeman). With help from Batman (Arnett), a patched-up pirate (Offerman) and a groovy kitty (Brie), they go off-grid to save their civilisation, pursued by the president's vicious enforcer (Neeson).

As the story spirals from the city to the Wild West and Cloud Cuckoo Land, it develops an insane, free-wheeling tone that can't help but spark our imaginations. And the sassy 3D animation adds to this by evoking surreal stop-motion classics like Gumby or The Magic Roundabout while referencing other movies and playing merrily with iconic characters. Hill, Smulders and Tatum turn up as a trio of frustrated superheroes, while Daniels and Williams offer a bit of Star Wars silliness. All of the vocal cast members dive into their characters with energy, bringing out the warped humour and pulling us into the action and even some emotional moments.

The most recent major revelation, courtesy of director Colin Trevorrow’s twitter, is that shooting on ‘Jurassic World’ will begin this April. The director tweeted, “Honoured to be working with cinematographer John Schwartzman on Jurassic World, shooting this April on 35mm and 65mm film. @Kodak @Panavision.” It’s also worth noting the directors decision to use 35mm and 65mm film instead of digital.

The Lego Movie Set For Release Later This Week

Chris Pratt Will Ferrell Will Arnett Morgan Freeman Liam Neeson Channing Tatum Elizabeth Banks

Danish company The Lego Group have partnered up with Warner Brothers for the first feature length Lego film, The Lego Movie, set to hit the big screen in 2014.

A child's imagination is what made Lego blocks what they were. They could make a spaceship, a Wild West shootout or even a pirate ship come to life; well, maybe for a few hours until the few remaining pieces left out were embedded in a parent's foot.  Now it has reached a safer place for adults as the loveable figures make their way from the toy box onto the big-screen in 3D animation comes Warner Brothers production:  'The Lego Movie'. With a highly admirable voiceover cast of Will Arnett, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Channing Tatum and Elizabeth Banks, the film looks ready to be a 2014 BLOCK-buster sensation.

Chris Pratt Morgan Freeman Will Ferrell Will Arnett Elizabeth Banks

The wide release of The Lego Movie is now only days away and as reviews filter through, reasons to watch this brand new, animated adventure stack up like the iconic, colourful building blocks. It seems that something in the movie's playful attitude and inventiveness has worked to bring out the inner child of even the most cynical critics and it's practically unanimous: The Lego Movie is a winner.

Delivery Man Review

Very Good

In remaking his 2011 French Canadian surprise hit Starbuck, filmmaker Ken Scott doesn't really try to do anything new. Aside from transplanting the story to New York and casting Hollywood star Vince Vaughn, it's exactly the same movie: likeable enough, even without attempting to do anything new or solve the problems of the original film.

Vaughn plays David, a slacker trying to pay off his debts and support his newly pregnant girlfriend (Smulders) by delivering meat for his butcher dad (Blumenfeld). Then David learns that, after donating sperm 20 years earlier, he has 533 biological children. When 142 file a class-action suit to learn the identity of the donor "Starbuck", David hires his inexperienced lawyer pal Brett (Pratt) to represent him in court. In the mean time, he begins to quietly follow his "kids" around like a sort of guardian angel. Then the press gets hold of the story, and he worries that his identity will be revealed.

Without trying too hard, Vaughn brings considerable charm to this character, so we like him even though David has no direction in his life. Vaughn is great at balancing the comical and dramatic elements of the story, notably in his hilarious scenes with Pratt and the more emotional interaction with three of the kids (Reynor, Robertson and Chanler-Berat). There's also a significant, moving sequence at the end between Vaughn and Blumenfeld.

Delivery Man Trailer

David Wozniak may be a lazy, middle-aged slob now, but he certainly did enough in his younger years to get himself into a situation that no man could ever dream of happening to them. After donating a vial of sperm to a sperm bank some 20-plus years ago, he is visited by an official from the clinic who informs him that he has in fact managed to father a colossal 533 children. Unfortunately, a good percentage of those 'kids' are now taking legal action in a bid to discover the identity of their biological father, nicknamed Starbuck. His lawyer has managed to pick up an envelope of all their profiles, giving David a strict instruction not to open it. Curiosity overcomes him when he opens it and he suddenly finds himself overwhelmed with a desire to take care of every one of his offspring and help them in any way he can. However, with a sceptical girlfriend, an unsupportive best friend and a lawyer who thinks he should stay away, he has got so many tough decisions to make.

This hilarious and heartwarming movie is based on the recent French film 'Starbuck'. Both were directed and written by Ken Scott ('Sticky Fingers', 'The Rocket: The Legend of Rocket Richard') and it tells a tale of responsibility and the true meaning of parenthood. 'Delivery Man' will be released in the UK on January 10th 2014.

Her Trailer

Theodore Twombley wasn't exactly having the best time in his life. He never socialised, seldom spoke to his family and he had just been through a distressing marriage separation. That was, until, he met Samantha; a computer operating system designed to fit his every need. With a voice more human than you could imagine from a machine and a witty, caring but slightly nosey personality, Theodore becomes more and more attached to her. However, soon the distinction between man and machine becomes evident when he begins to fall deeply in love with her, despite the fact that she knows little about how human relationships work. With her gradually reciprocating love, Theodore gets caught in a crisis when he is forced to come to terms with the fact that the only person he wants to spend the rest of his life with isn't even a physical entity.

This romantic sci-fi tells the heart-breaking but troubling story of the relationship between human beings and their beloved machines. With a thoroughly talented cast, it has been directed and written by Spike Jonze ('Where the Wild Things Are', 'Being John Malkovich', 'Adaptation.') and it set to feature in cinemas in the US on November 20th 2013.

Chris Pratt, the 34-year-old actor who has bagged himself some pretty tasty roles in recent years, is bulking up for his role in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Pratt is the latest movie star to undergo a dramatic physical transformation and posted his progress in an Instragram photo this week.

It's not the first time the Parks and Recreation actor has changed weight for a movie role - he sported a hugely toned physique for his role as a member of Seal Team Six in Kathyn Bigelow's Osama Bin Laden movie 'Zero Dark Thirty' last year.

Emmet is just a regular little Lego guy with an average and uneventful life. However, that's all about to change when wizened mystic Vitruvius mistakes him for the amazing Master Builder and enlists him on a mission to save the plastic building block world from being glued together by an evil adversary. He has no choice but to accompany Vitruvius, Batman and an attractive by feisty female mini-figure as they track their nemesis down before havoc can be wreaked upon the world, despite being dangerously unprepared and certainly unskilled in anything surrounding life and death matters. Will Emmett surprise himself and live up to the overwhelming expectation? Or is Legoland doomed to be enveloped in adhesive?

Based on the popular toy that has absorbed both children and adults for 64 years, 'Lego' is hilarious animated movie directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller ('21 Jump Street', 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs'), and Chris McKay ('Robot Chicken'). Lord and Miller also co-wrote the screenplay alongside brothers Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman ('Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu', 'Hotel Transylvania'). Vince Vaughn Looks Set To Bring Laughs In The Delivery Man Trailer [Video]

Vince Vaughn Cobie Smulders Chris Pratt

The Delivery Man is the new comedy from writer/director Ken Scott (Starbuck) and what looks to be one of the outsider bets for the year's best comedy blockbuster. With Vince Vaughn as the titular deliverer, the film also has nods to TV comedy faithfuls Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) and Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation) and looks as though it could deliver for cinema-goers after a good laugh.

Vaughn stars as a loveable slacker who finds out that he has fathered over 500 children thanks to an anonymous donation he made to a sperm bank two decades ago. When the families discover only one sperm donor was used for so many people a lawsuit is brought against the sperm-bank demanding that they reveal the father of their children, leaving Vaughn's character in a delicate situation where he must decide to either come forward of keep his head down, a decision not helped by the less-than-helpful tips from his best friend (Pratt).

The film is Vaughn's third comedy of the year, with the actor teaming up with long-time collaborator and friend Owen Wilson for The Internship this summer, whilst he will also be reprising his role as Wes Mantooth in the long-awaited Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues later this year. With Smulders' career on the rise thanks largely to the Avengers movie, Pratt is also experiencing a well-deserved boost in movie exposure, appearing in Spike Jonze's latest project, Her, The Lego Movie and the upcoming Marvel spectacle Guardians of the Galaxy in the coming months.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Has A Guardian: Chris Pratt

Chris Pratt

The Guardians Of The Galaxy cast is coming together, slowly but surely. Chris Pratt is to take the lead role of Star-Lord - a man with a human mother and alien father, Deadline report.

It's a big opportunity for Pratt, and he'll have to work hard to keep the legions of fans happy. But it's not as though he was the only option pursued by Marvel, who apparently made test deals with Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty) Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas) Lee Pace (Lincoln and The Hobbit) and Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables). They also talked to  Zachary Levi. who was identified as a candidate while Joseph Gordon-Levitt was mooted, but he has other plans. Chris Pratt plays Andy Dwyer on the NBC series Parks And Recreation, and was seen on the big sreen recently in Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty.

Guardians Of The Galaxy first appeared in Marvel Comics back in in 1969 but wasn't awarded its own series until the 1990s. The story sees Star-Lord - to be brought to life by Pratt, and who's real name is Peter Quill - lead a group of alien superheros who team up to protect the solar system from an evil alien race. It's very much cut from the same cloth as the Avengers. In the comics, the Guardians worked with The Avengers, so you can expect to see some more familiar names used to boost this franchise for sure. An August 1, 2014 release date for Guardians of The Galaxy is planned.

Zero Dark Thirty Review

Excellent

Blistering writing, directing and acting hold us firmly in our seats as this procedural drama snakes its way to a riveting action finale. Although it's sometimes not easy to know whether director Bigelow and writer Boal are celebrating or criticising the way America has conducted itself on the world stage in its war on terrorism. Clearly the characters believe that these dodgy methods are essential tools in their job. But the film cleverly respects and challenges our own views on the issues.

The story begins with the events of 9/11, after which the CIA is determined to track down Osama bin Laden. Spearheading the search is tenacious analyst Maya (Chastain), who works with her colleague Dan (Clarke) to interrogate prisoners and mobilise their team (including Ehle and Perrineau) to action. Their bosses (Chandler and Strong), the CIA director (Gandolfini) and the national security advisor (Dillane) offer support and challenges. And eventually they get approval to illegally send a black-op team into bin Laden's suspected hide-out in Pakistan.

It's astonishing that Boal and Bigelow have managed to tell this true story without taking sides. They have been criticised for possibly using classified details or for depicting torture as an interrogation tool, but the facts can't be denied just because we don't like them. And your attitude going in will probably colour how you feel about the movie: some will find this a story of triumph while others will be troubled by the methods it depicts. Either way, it's impossible to ignore the film's urgency as it pulls us into a fascinating story.

Zero Dark Thirty Trailer

Following the tragic events of the twin towers bombing on September 11th 2001 in New York City, Islamic extremist group Al Qaeda's leader Osama Bin Laden was the most wanted man in the entire world. He had managed to evade capture and certain execution for nearly ten years when, in the year of the 10th anniversary of the tragedy, he was found by the extraordinary Navy SEAL Team 6 and shot dead at his residence in Abbottabad, Pakistan on May 2nd. The event, however tarnished with conspiracy theories and speculation, marked a moment in history and was seen as a giant step in the current war on terror.

'Zero Dark Thirty' is the gritty historical drama telling the story of when Bin Laden was successfully captured and assassinated by a remarkable group of CIA operatives whose covert operations and well-kept secrets gave America their biggest victory in many years. With director Kathryn Bigelow ('Point Break', 'Strange Days') and writer Mark Boal ('In the Valley of Elah') who have previously worked alongside one another on the six time Academy Award winning war flick 'The Hurt Locker', it is set to be a seminal movie that may itself become an important part of history. It is set to be released on January 25th 2013.

Starring: Jessica Chastain, Scott Adkins, Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton, Chris Pratt, Jennifer Ehle, Mark Strong, Taylor Kinney, James Gandolfini, Mark Duplass, Harold Perrineau, Jennifer Ehle, Kyle Chandler, Frank Grillo, Stephen Dillane & Edgar Ramirez.

Movie 43 Trailer

If you were hoping for a romantic comedy with a harmless storyline, romance and inoffensive jokes, the here's a warning: read no further. 'Movie 43' is one of the most cringe-worthy and uncensored taboo-filled flicks to be released in the history of comedy. Here you will see several interlinked stories with characters' lives surrounding unusual proposals, interrupting blind kids' parties, bad parenting, teenage menstruation, a confused and slightly racist basketball coach, innovative business ideas and the kidnapping of a violent leprechaun. Once you see this movie it is unlikely you will find a subject that offends you ever again.

With twelve different comedy genius directors including Peter Farrelly ('Dumb & Dumber', 'There's Something About Mary', 'Shallow Hal'), Steve Carr ('Daddy Day Care', 'Dr Dolittle 2'), Steven Brill ('Little Nicky') and Brett Ratner ('Rush Hour') to name but a few and eight different writers, this jaw-droppingly crude and often obscene movie features a diverse star-studded cast, both British and American, who have banded together to shock you in the most hilarious ways you can think of. Whatever kind of comedy you're into, 'Movie 43' probably has something in it for everyone and it is set to hit the big screen on February 1st 2012.

Directed by : Elizabeth Banks, Steven Brill, Steve Carr, Rusty Cundieff, James Duffy, Griffin Dunne, Peter Farrelly, Patrik Forsberg, James Gunn, Bob Odenkirk, Brett Ratner, Jonathan van Tulleken

The Five-Year Engagement Review

Segel and Stoller repeat their duties from 2008's Forgetting Sarah Marshall and come up with another hilarious romantic-comedy for grown-ups. It's corny, but it keeps us laughing all the way through while stirring in some genuinely sweet moments.

A year after they met, San Francisco chef Tom (Segel) proposes to his girlfriend Violet (Blunt), but their excited wedding plans are interrupted when Violet gets a post-doc position at the University of Michigan. So they postpone the wedding and head to the snowy Midwest. There, Violet's career soars while Tom has little to do beyond making sandwiches in a deli and going hunting with his new friends. And before they can set a new date, Violet's sister (Brie) marries and has two kids with Tom's best pal (Pratt).
