Chris Pratt has clarified what he meant when he used the word ‘impotent’ in an interview the other week when he spoke about being overweight – apparently, he didn’t know what the word meant!

The Hollywood superstar gave an interview to Men’s Health U.K. last week, in which he described his feelings about being overweight a few years ago before he slimmed down and rose to prominence. He claimed that he felt “depressed” and “impotent”, remarks that were inevitably seized upon and wound up all over social media.

Expanding upon what he meant to Access Hollywood on Tuesday (June 9th), Pratt laughed it off, saying “I'm not sure I knew what 'impotent' meant when I said it. I had a lower sex drive, to be honest with you. Everything about my spirit was dull. I didn't feel great, and I think people will relate to that.”

The Jurassic World star continued, “I don't want to ever come out against sounding like I'm talking smack about people who have issues with their body weight, or don't have issues with their body weight. To each their own, but to those who felt the way I felt at that time, there's really hope.”

He added that people who want to do something about their weight can “make a big change” with hard work and dedication. The actor said, “it will affect you, not just physically, not just the way you look, but how you feel and how your spirit feels and how your penis feels – especially the penis part!”

Pratt, 35, is married to Anna Faris, with whom he has two year old son Jack. His career upturned dramatically a few years ago having starred in NBC’s ‘Parks and Recreation’, since when he has starred in a number of critically acclaimed films like Zero Dark Thirty and Moneyball and blockbusters like The Lego Movie and Guardians of the Galaxy. He explained that luck played a large part in his body transformation, when he got a role in the last of those movies.

“I got very, very lucky in that I had a deadline. They were like, 'Here's when we start filming, and you have to be in shape by then,'” he explained. “A deadline is a big deal and a major gift because when you have a deadline you have to get it done and so that, that was a big turning point for me. And then utilizing the help of professionals, nutritionists and, and people who help you – personal trainers, that kind of thing was a big deal.”

But the most difficult part? Portion control and alcohol, apparently. “The hardest thing was just giving up how much I enjoy big meals with rich foods and lots of wine and beer and everything that accompanies it,” he admitted. “You want a white wine and then you want a red wine, and then you want a dessert wine, and then you want a little digestive.”
