Chris Pratt, the 34-year-old actor who has bagged himself some pretty tasty roles in recent years, is bulking up for his role in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Pratt is the latest movie star to undergo a dramatic physical transformation and posted his progress in an Instragram photo this week.

It's not the first time the Parks and Recreation actor has changed weight for a movie role - he sported a hugely toned physique for his role as a member of Seal Team Six in Kathyn Bigelow's Osama Bin Laden movie 'Zero Dark Thirty' last year.

Marvel's new superhero movie - based on the comic book team of the same name - follows an American pilot in space and a group of futuristic ex-cons who go on the run with a highly coveted object. Directed by James Gunn, the movie sees Pratt star opposite Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace, Glenn Close, Karen Gillan, Benicio Del Toro and John C. Reilly

In November, it was announced Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston, Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace and Eddie Redmayne signed deals to test for the role of Peter Quill/Star-Lord, though Pratt eventually snagged the role despite late interest from Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Other actors to undergo dramatic transformations for movie roles include Christian Bale for The Machinist and Matthew McConuaghey for The Dallas Buyers Club.
