The season finale of Mr. Robot has been postponed as it reportedly bears some striking similarities to the recent shootings in Virginia in which two people died. The season finale was supposed to air on USA Network on Wednesday (26th August) but viewers were surprised to have found it replaced with another show.

"The previously filmed season finale of Mr. Robot contains a graphic scene similar in nature to today’s tragic events in Virginia,” USA Network said in an on-screen statement at 10 p.m. EST on Wednesday.

The network apologised for the disappointment but they had made the decision to postpone the finale until the first week of September out of "respect to the victims, their families and colleagues, and our viewers.”

“Our thoughts go out to all those affected during this difficult time," the network added, as THR reports.

Mr. Robot, which stars Christian Slater and Rami Malek, follows a young computer hacker and a group of other vigilantes as they attempt to bring down corporate America. The finale is reportedly violent and includes a scene in which a journalist is shot on live television whilst giving a report.

The scene is similar to one many watching Virginia’s WDBJ witnessed earlier this week when a rogue gunman shot three people on live television, as the BBC reports. Journalist Alison Parker was interviewing Vikki Gardner when the attacked occurred. The interview was filmed by photojournalist Adam Ward. Tragically, Parker and Ward died as a result of their injuries whilst Gardner is hospitalised and in a stable condition. The shooter was Vester Lee Flanagan II, former WDBJ employee who died several hours later of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The season finale of Mr. Robot will air on Wednesday 2nd September at 11p.m. EST.
