Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic Interstellar, which divided critics earlier this year though won acclaim for its innovative techniques, has been voted 2014's most overrated movie by users on review aggregating website Metacritic. For the fifth straight year, the website invited users to list their favourite movies, games, TV shows, albums and songs of the past calendar year.

Richard Linklater's Oscar-frontrunner Boyhood was the highest scoring new movie in Metacritic history, while Nolan's Interstellar finished second (but more on that later). Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Edge of Tomorrow, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and horror hit The Babadook closed out the Top 10.

Interstellar is a big hit for Paramount. Make no mistake about it. Despite mixed reviews, very few have disagreed with the opinion that the sci-fi epic is Christopher Nolan's most visually impressive project to date and the box-office numbers have been strong. However, not everyone has been so enamoured with all of the technical achievements of this blockbuster.

'Interstellar' has been another success for Nolan, though some audiences have complained about the sound quality in certain scenes

Last week, one cinema in New York posted a notice confirming that its equipment was in fully working order after some complaints regarding the sound mix. In particular, viewers struggled to hear dialogue featuring Michael Caine revealing key information to Jessica Chastain's from his hospital bed.

Matthew McConaughey has called Christopher Nolan's new sci-fi epic Interstellar "wilder than any other ride" seen on screen. Anticipation for the space-exploration blockbuster has been building for months and now, after reactions from numerous preview screenings began leaking out, things are reaching fever pitch.

As Variety notes, Nolan has essentially become a brand in himself - a tag that could previously only be attributed to Spielberg and Scorsese - and Interstellar is tracking to make more than $50 million as word-of-mouth increases. Last year, Gravity opened to $55.8 million and Legendary Pictures have a similar number in sight.

Christopher Nolan has made an appearance at CinemaCon to talk about his hugely anticipated new sci-fi movie Interstellar. The film has been mostly kept under wraps, though we do know that real-life wormhole scientist Kip Thorne is credited as a producer and Matthew Mcconaughey and Michael Caine star.

Nolan told at an audience at the annual event that he's largely concentrating on the movie's tone, calling McConaughey's character an "everyman" - more Ron Woodruff than Rust Cohle - and describing the film as "using interstellar travel to go to other places you couldn't reach beyond normal space travel," reports Variety.

Nobody could deny Matthew Mcconaughey the Oscar for best actor at the 86th Academy Awards. His acceptance speech was typically McConaughey and the 44-year-old Texan really has established himself as one of America's finest actors with movie-stealing turns in Killer Joe, Mud, The Wolf of Wall Street and Dallas Buyers Club - not to mention his probable Golden Globe and Emmy winning turn in HBO's crime-drama True Detective.

Now, a lot can happen between now and the Oscars in 2015, though McConaughey will be considered an early favorite to win best actor again - for Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. It's been known for years that the Academy doesn't particular reward sci-fi, but with Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity winning seven gongs on Sunday (March 2, 2014), it's not difficult to argue that trends are changing.

The first trailer for Christopher Nolan's upcoming sci-fi epic Interstellar has hit the web, and it's clear that the Dark Knight director is keeping everyone guessing. The official synopsis is that Interstellar follows the human obsession with overcoming the impossible and cutting down the limitations - but, well, that could mean anything.

Ok, so there's a little more than that. Essentially, a group of curious space-explorers uncover a wormhole in the universe that can allow them to make critical shortcuts through spacetime. They set out on an intergalactic expedition never before undertaken by man, to find whole new worlds.

Earlier this week we were treated to the first teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic Interstellar. The trailer really did put the 'teaser' back in to teaser trailer, as it consisted only of archive footage of various historical events, with Matthew Mcconaughey's rich Texan drawl narrating something inspirational over the top of the images. It gave absolutely nothing away in regards to what we can expect to see in the film, but frankly we don't even care.

Not to jump to conclusions, but Nolan might have done it again

Nolan has been working in relative secrecy on the project along with his brother, Jonathan Nolan, with the basis of the film apparently being inspired by a story by physicist Kip S. Thorne. We already know this, as well as the fact that McConaughey will be starring in the film alongside Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine and others, and after seeing the first glimpse of the film this is still all we know in regards to what the Nolan Bros. have in store for us. Their secrecy might make some angry, but frankly the secrecy is just making us more and more excited for the complex film.

The Dark Knight trilogy has been lauded as the greatest comic book adaption series ever committed to film and has re-written the way Hollywood sees superhero movies, but Christian Bale has decided that when it comes to wearing the famed black mask and cape; three times is enough. The Oscar-winning actor told Entertainment Weekly that although he cherishes the time he had making the movies, he thinks it better to leave things as they are and not tamper with Christopher Nolan's astounding vision.

"We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That's enough. Let's not get greedy," said the Batman/Bruce Wayne actor during the interview to promote his new film, Out of the Furnace, adding; "Chris [Nolan] always said he wanted to make it one film at a time and we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying 'We're about to make the third.' We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well."

Han Zimmer and Christopher Nolan seem to go together like Steven Spielberg and John Williams or Tim Burton and Danny Elfman nowadays, with the director and film score-writer hooking up yet again for Nolan's next movie, Interstellar. The German-born composer has even began writing the music for the project too, which is expected to reach cinemas in fall 2014.

Zimmer told Collider on Saturday (June 1) that following an exceptionally successful collaborative run over the Dark Knighttrilogy and Inception, he is eager to work with the British director once again on his sci-fi epic. As well as having Zimmer on board, Nolan is writing the script with his brother Jonathan, based on the work of theoretical physicist Kip Thorne. Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain will star.

The composer only revealed his own participation in the movie, neglecting to mention anything else about the upcoming project that is being helmed by the notoriously secretive Nolan. Zimmer's revelation doesn't exactly come as a surprise, however the news that he is already working on the score more than a year before the release of the film gives some indication of the ambition and scale of the project. He said, “I wrote something…and I’m writing that. So, yes, we have started.”

Batman: Arkham Origins captures a "rawer, scarier Batman" more akin to Christopher Nolan's movie franchise than previous games in the series. The new game - set for release on October 25 - is set five years before the events on 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum, on a New York Christmas Eve where many of Gotham's inhabitants still consider the caped crusader to be a myth.

Senior producer Ben Mattes and creative director Eric Holmes were in Los Angeles last week to showcase scenes from the game, which includes new weapons, a new voice cast and enhanced detective abilities for Batman, according to the Los Angeles Times. Mattes said the primary inspiration behind the new game was the 'Legends of the Dark Knight' comic series, launched after Tim Burton's 1989 movie. The emphasis on Batman's earlier days means Origins is more likely to mirror Christopher Nolan's 'Dark Knight' trilogy. "That's the time in his career we loved, and we believe it dovetailed very appropriately with being a player in a video game - that feeling of raw empowerment that comes from knowing the people you're fighting in the world are scared of you," Mattes told Hero Complex. "They are genuinely worried about what happens when you get your hands on them. That creates a very strong feeling of power that we want to put in the hands of the players.

Everyone getting all excited about the forthcoming Justice League film just hold onto your hats – the movie might not even be getting made.

A recent report by Variety assesses the future of Warners studios and pinpoints that the Henry Cavill-starring Superman film Man Of Steel is the key target for them this year with regards commercial success. This much we already knew; what we didn’t know is the suggestion that the success of that film could impact plans further down the line – namely the production of the Justice League film. If the film tanks it’s unlikely that that film would then happen – disappointing news for all those who’ve reported on rumored directors, actors, plots and characters so vehemently. As Variety points out, Warners hasn’t been able to fully exploit its DC Comic titles that well – Christopher Nolan’s Batman films aside – with Green Lantern most notably struggling at the box office.

The studio has of course been prospering elsewhere, with the likes of the Harry Potter films, The Hobbit, and The Hangover franchise all doing well in recent years, as well as Batman. Yet in turbulent economic times, even the biggest movie companies know that the collapse of their fan base could always be just one bad film around the corner, and so the suggestion that The Justice League is being treated cautiously is a sensible, if not slightly disappointing, decision.

Christopher Nolan's epic conclusion to the celebrated Dark Knight trilogy was released in the summer of 2012, with many critics agreeing that it was already a viable contender for Oscar season, but of the 24 categories on offer, The Dark Knight Rises didn't receive a single nod.

Everyone seems to be up in arms over Ben Affleck's omission from the Best Director category, or over Skyfall's similarly unanimous snub (although, rightly so, it has been given the nod for Best Cinematography as well as nominations for its soundtrack and editing), but it does come as quite a surprise to see so few remarks about the lack of Batman at The Oscars.

Ok, we all agree that the film maybe wasn't overall as good as its predecessor The Dark Knight, but it was still one hell of a show (and how was Tom Hardy supposed to compete with Heath Ledger's Joker). From the colossal set designs (Bane's sewer-based lair), the quite brilliant costumes on show (Catwoman and Bane's mask) and the film's deep underlying messages reflecting our own world, raising questions about class, wealth and power, has a more deserving and appropriate for our time film been made this year? You'd have to say no, not really.

Ok, so the headline's probably a little unfair. We're pretty sure Christopher Nolan has all but given up trying to squeeze any golden statuettes out of the Academy. We should probably accept that the Batman director isn't going to win Best Director and Best Picture anytime soon, though his movies will no doubt continue to thrill for many, many years.

Anyway, the progressive filmmaker's latest project is likely to be sci-fi drama Interstellar, written by his brother and long-time collaborator Jonathan Nolan. According to multiple sources who spoke with the Hollywood Reporter, Nolan has set his sights on the big-budget project which - surprise, surprise - involves time travel and alternate dimensions. The details are sketchy, though it's thought the movie will follow a group of explorers who travel through a wormhole. The script is actually based on the real-life scientific theories of Kip Throne, a theoretical physicist, gravitational physicist and astrophysicist. 

Interstellar has already found a home at Paramount, though would be made in collaboration with Warner Brothers, where Nolan made his three Batman movies, as well as Insomnia and Inception. Steven Spielberg was originally attached to the project, though it's unclear whether he will remain involved in some capacity. On Wednesday, the Lincoln director's forthcoming project Robopocalypse was delayed indefinitely. On Thursday, Nolan's Dark Knight Rises was snubbed entirely in the Oscar nominations.
