Producers of the Walking Dead spin-off have cast TV actor Cliff Curtis in the lead role. The actor's previous credits include Gang Related, Missing and Body of Proof and he joins Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey in the companion series.

Character details are being kept under wraps though Curtis is likely to play Sean Cabrera - described only as a "good man." We already know that AMC's show will feature completely new characters from The Walking Dead, as well as different settings.

Robert Kirkman will act as executive producer, alongside Dave Erickson, while The Walking Dead's Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert are also executive producers.

"There are many corners of The Walking Dead universe that remain unseen in the shadows. Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill. I know the fans are anxious to hear what Dave and I have been cooking up for this new universe of The Walking Dead, and I'm happy to be one step closer to sharing it with them," Kirkman said in a statement when AMC announced the pilot.

Though the spin-off is yet to get a series order - it's unlikely, given the success of the Walking Dead, that the show will fall at the first hurdle.

AMC is seemingly in spin-off mode at the moment and will launch its Breaking Bad prequel Better Call Saul, with Bob Odenkirk in the lead.

The network recently announced a Preacher pilot, from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The show is based on the famous Vertigo comic book, from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.
