Now this is an interesting tidbit of movie trivia: Conor Oberst has revealed that he auditioned for the lead role in folk music comedy-drama, Inside Llewyn Davis. Although the Coen Brothers eventually cast Oscar Isaac as the titular folk singer, Bright Eyes' singer Conor Oberst was reportedly considered for the role.

"I know I told you this when we met, but I tried out for your role in Inside Llewyn Davis," Oberst told Isaac for Interview magazine. "Thank god for everyone that I didn't get it." Perhaps one of the main reasons Oberst failed to convince the Coen Brothers that he was best suited for the role was because of his non-existent acting C.V. which could have proved risky to take on in such a challenging lead role.

Joel and Ethan Coen initially hoped to cast "a musician who could act" to play the singer Llewyn Davis, said to be loosely based on Dave Van Ronk. "They auditioned a lot of musicians and actors for this part," said Oberst, "to the point where I heard the Coen Brothers and [music supervisor] T Bone Burnett say that they had more or less given up on the idea of finding someone. And then you appeared," he told Isaac.

The movie features the songwriter/actor Isaac in the lead role and focusses on Davis' life as a struggling folk musician trying to make his way at the height of folk music in 1961. Though it seems that the elements are against Davis and he is getting nowhere due to unresolved past mistakes and setbacks, he manages to stay focussed on his passion.
