The couple tweeted the news at the same time and attached the same picture. Cox wrote "I'm engaged to him!" whilst McDaid's corresponding image was captioned "I'm engaged to her!"

The Friends actress was introduced to her new fiancé by British singer Ed Shereen who has relocated to the US. McDaid moved to Nashville to work with Shereen in early 2013 and evidently met some time later that year.

E! spotted Cox wearing a huge diamond ring as she drove to dinner in Los Angeles a few days before the couple confirmed their engagement. The proposal coincided with Cox's 50th birthday celebrations. The couple flew to Amanyara in Turks and Caicos where they escaped the prying eyes of the paparazzi and, according to reports in the Star, sought out a secluded cove. The source said "Courteney and Johnny spent all of one afternoon on the beach. It was just the two of them and they found a secluded spot in a cove. It was a very romantic and beautiful setting."
