This past April, Craig Ferguson announced that he will departing as host of CBS's 'The Late Late Show' when his current contract expires in December 2014 after a ten year-run, but it seems the Scottish-born comedian won't be out of a job for long.

Ferguson is reportedly going to sign a deal to host a new talk show once his current contract expires

Ferguson is reportedly in talks and very close to signing a deal to become the host of a 7 p.m. syndicated talk show on Tribune stations that will run daily for half an hour, Variety reports. The show is being pushed for a launch in the fall of 2015.

The airing time of the proposed talk show will create less competition as shows with similar formats usually start later in an evening. However, this is possibly the first time this has been tested at such an early time slot, so the success of the show is hard to predict.

'Late Late Show' executive producer Michael Naidus is reportedly joining Ferguson in the new gig as the showrunner, which would mean elements of a talk show and comedy sketch will be combined. It is also expected to be taped at the 'Late Late Show's' current studio at CBS' Television City lot.

"CBS and I are not getting divorced, we are 'consciously uncoupling,' but we will still spend holidays together and share custody of the fake horse and robot skeleton, both of whom we love very much," Ferguson, who has held the 12:35 a.m. time slot for the past decade, said in a statement in April.

The 51 year-old host's replacement has not yet been named but it is believed that CBS are currently eyeing up British TV personality/actor James Corden to take the helm of the 'Late Late Show,' although this has not yet been confirmed.
