Craig Ferguson was too busy ''taking acid'' with Peter Capaldi to study.

The 'Late Late Show' presenter admits he is often asked for career tips on breaking into the TV industry, but claimed he ''doesn't know'' because he spent much of his student life in a rock band with the 'Doctor Who' actor.

Speaking on 'Late Night with Seth Meyers', he said: ''People ask me how to get into late night and I don't know. When the rest of the guys were at Emerson or Harvard...I was taking acid in the back of the band with the guy who plays the Doctor. ''

During his tenure in the band, Craig - who played drums - admitted they underwent a ''different move in direction'' which even sparked a name change.

He added: ''He and I were in a band called 'The Dreamboys' together. ... We were originally called 'The B*****ds from Hell.' [The name change] was a slightly different move in direction.''

Meanwhile, Craig - who is departing the 'Late Late Show' after 10 years - warned Seth his new job will make him ''go crazy''.

He said: ''It'll get to you, man. But here's the thing. You just have to stick with it. And when they ring that little bell, you come out here and you dance for your nickels. And that's all you do.

''Anyone who does a TV show over and over and over again, you're going to go crazy ... you're going to go f***ing crazy, Seth...

''You're a class act and I really hope you enjoy a good long, happy run but you'll go crazy.''
