Cyndi Lauper says men need to wear great shoes if they want to impress the ladies.

The pop legend is married to actor David Thornton and always keeps a watchful eye on the footwear he chooses.

And Cyndi insists the first thing many women look at when judging a man is the pair of shoes on his feet so all guys should dress to impress.

Speaking at the UK premiere of her musical 'Kinky Boots' at the Adelphi Theatre in London's West End on Tuesday night (15.09.15), she told BANG Showbiz: ''I think you can tell a lot about a fella is going to be like by his shoes! And I think you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes in general.''

It was Cyndi's shoe obsession that first intrigued her when her playwright pal Harvey Fierstein asked her to write the music and songs for the stage adaptation of 'Kinky Boots' with him.

The multiple Tony Award-winning production opened in the US in 2012 and after runs in South Korea and Canada and it has now opened in the UK.

Although the 62-year-old singer has seen the show multiple times she still gets touched by the story about a son who wants to save his family's shoe factory by making sexy footwear.

Cyndi said: ''The reaction to the show has been so wonderful, but it's a great show. I still get sucked in by the storyline now and I've seen it many times.''

Explaining how she got involved with the project initially, she added: ''Harvey called me up and asked me if I wanted to be involved, of course it's about shoes, I do a lot of shoe pieces in my work so I was interested. When I saw the movie I related to it and then it was just a case of writing songs for my pals and I just tried to write a few great songs.''

Cyndi was joined at the opening of 'Kinky Boots' by Harvey, director Jerry Mitchell and the show will now play for eight shows a week at the Adelphi Theatre.
