We’re picturing a superhero clad in green and black spandex, flying down to silence a hoard of angry Community fans protesting out NBC’s headquarters with news that Hulu are saving their beloved show. Hulu are thinking of resurrecting Community, in case you didn’t get that from that.

CommunityIs 'Community' Coming Back?

There was uproar when NBC announced it was cancelling Dan Harmon’s hugely popular comedy, which somehow can’t translate that cult following into the kind of viewing figures NBC want. But Hulu are – according to people like The Hollywood Reporter – in talks with Sony Pictures Entertainment with a view to bringing it back for a sixth season on the streaming service.

"You can't get to six seasons and a movie without six seasons," Sony Pictures Television co-president Jamie Erlicht told THR on May 14, a week after NBC canceled the series. "We, more than any other studios, fight for shows that we believe in. This show had a remarkable history. There are real conversations we need to have with everyone as soon as we get back. We've been on the receiving end of some phone calls, but we really need to get together with the Community team and have real conversations and figure out the future. If there's any show that should have a future or could have a future, it really feels like Community is the one."

Community HuluCould Hulu Be The Answer for 'Community'?

This is becoming an increasingly popular strategy for streaming services; plucking the scraps and capitalising on the mistakes made by the major networks and cable channels. Netflix did it with Arrested Development; Amazon Prime Instant Video are doing it with the U.K’s Ripper Street, and now Hulu are thinking about doing it for Community.

"If Dan Harmon feels that this is the darkest timeline, then we'll figure out very quickly how to turn that around. So we need to get to our partner and we've had some really interesting conversations and a few incoming phone calls, which was really nice," continued Erlicht. Watch this space, or something.
