Daniel Bruhl has reportedly been cast in the next Captain America film entitled Captain America: Civil War.

The 36-year-old German actor is set to play an unspecified role in the third film in the Marvel Comics franchise, according to Deadline.com. It is believed he may have been cast as the villain but reports remain unconfirmed.

The upcoming film will see Captain America, played by Chris Evans, and Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr., team up with some new and old allies. Sebastian Stan returns as The Winter Solider and Anthony Mackie will reprise his role as The Falcon. Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson are also expected to return as Black Widow and Nick Fury. Bruhl is not the only new member of the cast as Chadwick Boseman (Get On Up) joins as Black Panther.

Bruhl is best known for his roles in such films as The Bourne Ultimatum, The Fifth Estate and Rush. He is also well known in Germany and has appeared in dozens of foreign films as he is multi-lingual. His break out in mainstream US cinema came in 2009 when he featured in Inglourious Basterds. He won critical acclaim when he starred in Ron Howard's Rush as race car driver Niki Lauda.

The shooting for Captain America: Civil War, which will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, is set to begin in April 2015 in Georgia. The film is expected to be released in May of the following year.
