Danny Dyer Forced To Take A Break From 'EastEnders' Over Drinking Concerns

Danny Dyer Eastenders

Danny Dyer has reportedly been forced to take a break for a “number of weeks” from the set of ‘Eastenders’, after producers told him he needed to “sort his life out” following a reputed string of drunken benders.

Sources told The Sun on Thursday (February 16th) that the 39 year old actor, who plays The Queen Vic’s landlord Mick Carter, had sparked concern among the BBC soap’s producers when he fell off the wagon at last month’s National Television Awards, in his battle to quit drinking.

Danny Dyer Tries To Give Mary Berry "Full-On" Kiss. Awkwardness Ensues

Danny Dyer Mary Berry

Well, it was an eventful TV Choice Awards on Monday night (September 8, 2014) and not just because Danny Dyer was given an award for acting. It was after he was announced as Best Soap Actor that things started to get...weird.

Danny DyerDanny Dyer [center] won Best Soap Actor

First of all, Dyer took to the stage to collect his prize and seemed confused over whether the award he was handed by comedian and host David Mitchell was for him or not.

BBC’s BAME Representation Called Into Question Again; 'Eastenders' Compared To E. London

Danny Dyer Eastenders

In a bid to convey the lack of Black, Asian and minority ethnic representation in Eastenders, The BBC's audience council in England compared the population of Walthamstow in east London with Walford, the fictional home of EastEnders.

The conclusion: the British soap is "almost twice" as white as real life London, prompting the latest criticism of the BBC’s effort to realistically convey the U.K’s demographics realistically.

EastEnders Turns Hipster As Shoreditch Effect Creeps In

Danny Dyer

BBC One's EastEnders is set to change so that it can better "reflect the modern world" after being "frozen in aspic for too long," according to the soap's recently-appointed new executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins.

The queen Victoria Pub
The Social Landscape Of East London Has Evolved Since The Eighties.

Having been set in the east of London since its debut in 1985, EastEnders' working class aesthetic now seems incongruous with the trendy, hipster art scene that has taken over the eastern boroughs of Shoreditch and Hackney. "It should feel more like London. It's been frozen in aspic for too long," Treadwell-Collins told the latest issue of Radio Times. "Sharon said recently that she's looking to be a landlady and as a result you'll see the edges of Shoreditch creeping into EastEnders. It's got to reflect the modern world."

Could Danny Dyer's 'Vendetta' Actually Be Good? Nope.

Danny Dyer

Apart from our own take on the movie, It’s difficult to even find a set of reviews for Danny Dyer’s Vendetta. And it would be nice to believe they’ve just not been filed yet, but the sinking feeling – for Danny Dyer anyway – is that most of the lazy movie critics can't even be bothered to see it let alone write about it.

Vendetta

It attempts to tell a thrilling, personal story in a dilapidated Britain, but manages to conform to its low budget, even if director of photography Haider Zaifar tries his best to hide the budget. "Dyer is unflinching and remorseless as a killer who won't be stopped until he's done or dies trying,” writes Stuart Wright of Britflicks.com, in his review.

Jack Whitehall has had a string of comedy successes in recent years such as 'Hit The Road Jack', which saw him on a comedy tour of the UK in 2012; Channel 4 comedy show 'Fresh Meat', in which he stars as an upper-class, wannabe ladykiller at university; and his self-written school comedy 'Bad Education' which sees him play a generally useless young teacher.

Weak

Packed with cliches, there's nothing remotely original about this East London crime thriller, which seems to be based on other similar movies rather than an original story or characters. It's also not particularly well-made, stretching a clearly low budget to the breaking point. But at least it has the always watchable Danny Dyer on board.

He plays Jimmy, a highly trained military operative who has been serving in Afghanistan but has a meltdown when he hears that his parents (Samms and Denham) have been brutally murdered by gangsters. So he escapes from military police custody and somehow returns to London to get revenge, tracking down the dealer (Osei) who ordered the murders, then killing him and his sidekicks in increasingly nasty ways. A local cop (Petrie) is on Jimmy's trail, hoping to advance his career by catching a serial killer. But he's told to back off by Jimmy's commanding officer (Regan), who knows what Jimmy's capable of.

There are quite a few other complications to the story, including Jimmy's attempts to help his estranged wife (McKee) and young daughter. And Jimmy also gets his old pal Griff (Ryan), who's now in the police force, to act as a double agent. Each actor makes the most of his or her character, overcoming the stereotypes and stiff dialog. But no one's remotely likeable, and even Dyer's character is more gleefully violent than is strictly necessary. This is the kind of role Jason Statham normally plays, but even he would struggle to make us sympathise with this guy.

Vendetta Trailer

Jimmy Vickers is a Special Forces Interrogator who returns home from his run in Afghanistan to a less than warm welcome. A vengeful gang has brutally murdered his elderly parents and, in a haze of fury and despair, he flees from his old unit and the police in a bid to avenge their deaths on his own terms - no matter what happens to him as a consequence. Even despite pleas from all around him  for him to let the authorities handle it, all he has is violence on his mind and so attempts to escape them just until he has slaughtered every last one of the killers - but could his actions be putting someone else in danger along the way?

'Vendetta' is a gritty British crime thriller directed and written by Stephen Reynolds ('Tomb Raider Ascension') and starring Danny Dyer, who's infamous for his roles in a bloodthirsty action flicks including 'Severance', 'The Football Factory' and 'Deviation'. Among the production team on this movie are Jonathan Sothcott ('Devil's Playground', 'Dead Cert', 'The Fall of the Essex Boys') and Billy Murray (who's popular for his acting role in UK soap opera 'Eastenders'). 'Vendetta' will hit theatres in the UK on November 22nd 2013.

Danny Dyer To Play Contract Killer In 'Brilliantly Slick' 'Assassin'

Danny Dyer Daniel Day Lewis Denise Van Outen Sarah Harding Neil Morrissey Girls Aloud

Danny Dyer has teamed up with noted action movie producers Jonathan Sothcott and J.K Amalou for the hitman thriller Assassin. Sothcott - a ridiculously prolific producer of action flicks - recently worked with Dyer on Vendetta, though there appears to be a heightened buzz surrounding their latest effort.

Described as a "glossy action film", the movie will see Dyer play a professional contract killer who compromises himself when he realizes that his latest victim is the estranged father of the girl he has fallen in love with, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"JK [Amalou] has written a brilliantly slick script and I cannot wait to start work with him, he's a force of nature of a filmmaker," producer Sothcott said. "I look forward to continuing building the new Danny Dyer brand with Assassin and Vendetta." Shooting on the movie is scheduled to begin in August with the filmmakers aiming to have a promo ready for the American Film Market in the fall.

Danny Dyer's 'Run For Your Wife' Takes £605: His Worst Movie Ever?

Danny Dyer Sarah Harding Denise Van Outen

Poor old Danny Dyer. Actually, let's not pity him - he was one the one who signed up for Run For Your Wife, a comedy also starring Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding and presenter Denise Van Outen. The movie scored a collective 0% rating on the reviews aggregating website Rotten Tomatoes, with Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian damningly writing "The trouser-dropping 80s stage farce finally hits the big screen with Danny Dyer, to kill off any remaining British self-respect."  Oh dear.

Danny DyerDanny Dyer's 'Run For Your Life' Took Just £602 At The UK Box Office

The movie has scored rather dismal box-office return of just £602 from nine cinemas, delivering an average of £67, plus previews of £320, according to The Guardian. Dyer can probably take a crumb of comfort in the fact that many of the sites only screened the film on Sundays, and the movie will play it at least a further 65 cinemas this week though mainly in late morning and afternoon slots. The movie - which features numerous high profile stars including Judi Dench who agreed to donate their fees to a theatre charity - follows the story of a London cab driver, played by Dyer, who has two wives, two lives and precise schedule for juggling both. One of his loves resides in Streatham, while another is settled in Wimbledon. The weird trailer was a foreboding sign, featuring Denise Van Outen singing a theme song while Danny Dyer falls out of windows and hits himself in the face with garden rakes. Oh, and Neil Morrissey turns up, for a bit.

Run For Your Wife Review

Bad

British farces work on stage, but usually feel agonisingly stupid on screen. And this is a worst-case scenario, as playwright Cooney adapts his classic 1983 farce without even the slightest adjustment for the cinema. Everything is played as broadly as possible, with luridly coloured sets and actors performing to the top balcony rather than cameras that are right in their faces. So even if it's energetic and sometimes amusingly silly, it's painful to sit through.

Everything centres around John Smith (Dyer), a cheeky cabbie who lives two idyllic lives. He lives with his wife Michelle (Van Outen) in South London and has a second wife Stephanie (Harding) north of the river, juggling them with his shift-work. One day he's injured while rescuing a bag lady (Dench) from two thugs, and he ends up in the hospital. When he doesn't come home on time, Michelle calls the South London police and meets a detective (Cartwright). But Stephanie also calls a cop (Le Prevost), and the two officers are about to rumble John's whole set-up. So he asks his chucklehead neighbour (Morrissey) for help.

As a farce, the story is full of possibility for slapstick hilarity and more telling social comedy. But Cooney never taps into any of this, instead creating a hectic movie that never pauses to catch its breath. Dialog is shouted at full pitch, which bulldozes any potential for clever wit. And most of the actors are goaded into giving smirking performances that make the characters deeply unlikeable. Everyone goes on about what a nice guy John is, but Dyer plays him as a panicky liar who cares about nothing but his own skin. And both Van Outen and Harding over-react so ludicrously to everything that we can't understand how John can bear to be around them.

Borstal Boy Review

Excellent
Irish filmmaking has always resonated with an urgent sense of political forethought. Filmmaker Jim Sheridan diligently championed the determined spirit of tortured protagonists in gutsy pictures such as My Left Foot, The Boxer, and In the Name of the Father. In the uplifting Emerald Isle melodrama Borstal Boy, Jim's brother Peter Sheridan effectively explores the trials and tribulations of a 16-year old boy's exploits behind the unbearable confines of a British World War II borstal, a reformatory center for boys, based on charismatic Irish writer Brendan Behan's memoir. Provocative and resoundingly crafty, Borstal Boy is a solid and refined piece of moviemaking imbued with passion and attitude.

Thanks to his heavy involvement in IRA-related activities, the film opens with Brendan (Shawn Hatosy, Anywhere But Here, John Q) in jail in East Anglia, England. Among the prison-camp personalities that the overwhelmed Brendan encounters are a thieving gay sailor named Millwall (Danny Dyer), whom he eventually. He also finds a love interest in the lovely and supportive Liz (Eva Birthistle), who happens to be the daughter of the facility's presiding Governor (Michael York). Consequently, Brendan begins to shape his outlook on life, challenging what was once a rigid belief system entrenched in his conservative shell.
