Dappy Defends Use Of Controversial Language On New Track

Dappy N-Dubz

Former N-Dubz rapper Dappy has defended his use of the n-word, after including it in the lyrics to a new track he’s released.

The star can be heard using the controversial word, which many find offensive despite the argument that ‘reclaiming’ the term empowers rather than degrades the traditional target of the word, in the introduction to a new freestyle track called ‘Tarzan’, on a new EP he released on Christmas Day.

“If the word means black to you then you're racist,” he wrote in a tweet on Tuesday afternoon (December 29th). The 28 year old, who is of Greek-Cypriot descent, added “We took that word and made it our own to p*** off the racists.”

Dappy was fined £800 for his troubles, as well as being ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £90 and costs of £930. Dappy Escapes Potentially Fatal Run In With A Plastic Cup, By Attacking His Would-Be Assailant First

Dappy

N-Dubz star Dappy, real name Costadinos Contostavlos, was lucky to escape with his life after a run-in with a man armed with a cup made entirely out of plastic (!) and possible filled more than halfway. The incident, that happened in Hereford nightclub Play on Friday 29 March, involved a man allegedly throwing the plastic cup at the 'No Regrets' singer, who responded by lashing out at the man from the stage using his microphone and fists.

A video of the incident has emerged but it only captures Dappy's response to the cup-wielding man, which looks a little more excessive than your everyday response to someone who may have thrown a plastic cup at you. Still, Dappy insists his actions were only used as a means of self defence and he was unaware that the cup was made from plastic, rather than glass, as he has since said, "I swung to disarm the glass from his hand. If that glass had hit me it could have been fatal."

Dappy Breaks Down In Tears As He Avoids Jail

Dappy

A petrol station brawl had threatened to land N-Dubz’ star Dappy in jail for three months, but the controversial singer/rapper escaped jail, breaking into tears and shouting “yes” when he learnt his fate, The Guardian reports.

He was handed a six-month sentence suspended for 18 months at Guildford crown court for assault and affray and ordered to do 150 hours of community service. He was also ordered to pay £4,500 compensation and £2,000 in costs. £6.5k and 150 hours of community service is tough, but nowhere near as tough as it could have been; the maximum sentence for his charge was a three year prison sentence. The trouble started at a Shell garage on Woodbridge Road, Guildford, at about 3.30am on 28 February, 2012. Dappy, allegedly, according to the prosecutor, approached Grace Cochran and Serena Burton trying to convince them to get in his car. When they refused, Dappy got angry and fought a man who stepped in to diffuse the situation.

Mr. Dappy – famous for his outspoken nature and hats - has endured plenty of run ins with the law.In November 2005, he was given a community order for possessing a bladed weapon in a public place. In September 2007, he was given 40 hours of community service for battery when he pushed a taxi driver. And in December 2008, he was given a four-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay compensation for two battery offences which related to him spitting at two women.

Blubbering Dappy, 25, Avoids Prison Sentence For Petrol Station Fight

Dappy

Dappy broke down in tears and shouted "Yes!" when told he would not be serving a prison sentence for a brawl at a petrol station in Guildford last year. The singer was given a six-month sentence suspended for 18 months at Guildford crown court on Friday morning (February 15, 2013), and told he must complete 150 hours of community service and pay £2,000 costs.

The 25-year-old had faced a maximum sentence of three years in jail after being convicted in connection with a brawl last year. The court heard during a nine-day trial last month that the pop star became angry after two 19-year-old girls refused to get into his car and go to a party at his recording studios. The disagreement led to a fight during which three men were injured. Dappy - real name Costadinos Contostavlos - had been out with friends celebrating the release of his single Rockstar. After spending the night in the VIP area of a Casino nightclub in Guildford drinking shots and Jack Daniels, the group headed back in three cars to the recording studios, stopping at the Shell garage at around 3.30am.

The court was told that Dappy had previous convictions for assault and possessing a bladed weapon. In November 2005, he was given a community order for possessing a bladed weapon in a public place, while in September 2007 he was given 40 hours of community service for battery when he pushed a taxi driver following an argument in Camden.

Dappy Pleads Not Guilty Despite DNA Evidence Implying Otherwise

Dappy

Dappy from N-Dubz has been charged with affray and both common assault and assault by battery, after a brawl occurred at a Surrey fuel station. He has been in court over the past two days having plead not guilty.

The brawl began when Dappy allegedly spat at two girls. What ensued left one man losing a number of teeth, and another with a broken nose, the Daily Mail reports. Apparently, the rapper had been hitting on a couple of 18 year old girls but they rejected him, which lead to Dappy spitting at them, and then when that missed, spitting at a man named David Jenkins who then got Dappy in a headlock, before the minor star's entourage showed up.

Prosecutor Brian Stalk narrated events, saying "[Dappy] called the girls 'slags'. He described one of them as 'ugly'. And then as a result of one of the girls calling him 'boring', he [spat at them]... Dappy's friends might have been concerned that their friend was in a head lock but the reaction was 'completely over the top and mob-handed."

Dappy's Decision To Plead Not Guilty In Assault Case Could Prove Dippy

Dappy N-Dubz

Dappy, that most unlovable scamp from British group N-Dubz, has decided to plead not guilty to four charges of assault and affray at Guildford Crown court. As you will remember from various reports in the earlier in the week, the, err, he’s a rapper we guess (though we can’t rightly remember much of what he’s done musically), was accused of instigating a brawl after spitting in two women’s faces. Pretty unpleasant if it turns out to be true.

The Guardian reports that the charges levelled against Dappy – real name Costadinos Contostavlos – are that he was alleged to have approached two 18 year-old women in February last year and asked them to come with him; when they refused a fight apparently broke out between the star and his pals, with some other men who were presumably loitering about nearby.

"What very quickly became apparent was [that] however interested Mr Contostavlos might have been in the girls, they were not interested in him," prosecutor Brian Stork said on Tuesday (January 8, 2013). "So his attitude changed, and from being polite and inviting he became rude. He called the girls 'slags'. He described one of them as 'ugly'. And then as a result of one of the girls calling him 'boring', he [spat at them]." Dappy could faces up to six months in prison if convicted.

Disgraced N-Dubz Star Dappy Spat At Girls, On Trial For Assault

Dappy N-Dubz

Former N-Dubz star Dappy has been in court, trying to defend himself against two counts of common assault, after he spat at two women who refused to get in his car and sparked a fight. Dappy is standing trial at Guildford Crown Court, The Sun reports, where he denies two counts of common assault on the women, one count of assault by beating (on a man that tried to defend them) and one of affray.

The jury in Guildford was told that Dappy pulled up in his car at a shell garage in Guildford, where he tried to persuade the two women to get in his car and go with him. When they refused, he became abusive, called one ugly and referred to them as sluts. Prosecutor Brian Stork told the jury “They were not interested in him and so his attitude changed. Instead of being polite he became rude. "He called the girls sluts and said one was ugly. And then perhaps as a result of what was said one of the girls called (Dappy) boring and he reacted by spitting at these two girls. To spit at them in this way is unwarranted and uncalled for. Fortunately the spittle landed on the ground near to where (the women) were sitting.” A man who had recently met the women then stepped in to defend them, only to find that he was also spat at and assaulted.

Dappy has denied spitting at any of the people involved and reportedly cannot understand how his saliva came to be on Mr Jenkins’ shirt. The trial is ongoing.
