The sports star recently confirmed he would be coming out of retirement to play a charity match at his former Manchester United home ground Old Trafford in November (15).

It has now emerged the game will conclude a special project during which David will play a soccer game in all seven continents across the world.

He will play the matches with teams made up of members of the local communities to showcase how sport can unite fans all over the globe.

The challenge will be filmed for a BBC documentary, titled Beckham: For The Love Of The Game, and will end with the match at Old Trafford featuring a number of other big name soccer stars.

"I remember sitting on a plane and discussing this idea with friends and never thinking it would become a reality," David says of the project. "I'm genuinely excited now we can realise this ambitious idea.

"Whether as a player or out in the field for (United Nations charity) UNICEF and other charitable partners, I have seen the transformational effect that sport and in particular football has on people's lives.

"This epic journey will allow me to show the positive side of the game I love and shine a light on the passion and selflessness of people that play this sport as a force for good."

A broadcast date has yet to be set. The charity match in Manchester, England takes place on 14 November (15).
