David Furnish has criticized the Golden Globes awards, accusing them of having "nothing to do with merit." He was referring to the fact that Madonna had beaten his husband, Elton John, to winning the Best Original Song award. Elton had already publicly criticised Madonna on the red carpet by saying that she stood "no f***ing chance" of winning. When she did win the award, Furnish almost instantly took to his Facebook profile, according to US magazine, to post the following message: "Madonna. Best song???? F**k off!!!"
He went on to say "Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism," he wrote. "And her criticism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is." Madonna was more gracious in her response, already aware that he was unhappy, having been made aware of his red carpet comments. She told reporters backstage "hope he speaks to me for the next couple of years," she quipped. "He's been known to get mad at me so I don't know. He's brilliant and I adore him so he'll win another award. I don't feel bad!"
With this year's Oscar nominations yet to be announced, the media spotlight will no doubt be trained on David Furnish and Elton John to see how they react if both Elton and Madonna are nominated for the 'Best Original Song' category.
