But on Monday Channel 5 announced that Gest had exited the show, with a spokesperson saying: ‘Due to medical reasons, David Gest has decided to leave the Celebrity Big Brother House. His exit will appear in tonight's show on Channel 5 at 9pm.’

Gest had previously complained of feeling unwell in the house, which led to an unfortunate mix-up when housemates learned of David Bowie’s death. When Angie Bowie informed housemate Tiffany Pollard of her ex-husband’s death last week, Tiffany initially misunderstood, believing that Gest had died.

The mix-up caused a row in the house, with other housemates saying they felt ‘threatened’ by Tiffany because of her behaviour. The show also faced a number of complainants due to their handling of Bowie’s death, with some accusing producers of ‘exploiting’ the singer’s passing for ratings.

Sunday night’s episode also saw Angie Bowie threaten to leave and even packing her suitcase. But later on Angie decided to stay in the house, telling Big Brother: "I'm sorry I'm so cranky, but when I don't sleep, I just, that's it.”
