Davy Jones' The Monkees bandmates have led tributes to him following his death earlier today (29.02.12).

Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork have all taken to their Facebook accounts to praise the singer - who leaves behind four daughters - after he died of a heart attack aged 66.

Davy was reportedly admitted to a Florida hospital yesterday evening (28.02.12) after complaining of chest pains, a spokesman for the singer has confirmed to TMZ.com.

Micky wrote on his Facebook page: ''Can't believe it...Still in shock...had bad dreams all night long. My love and prayers go out to Davy's girls and family right now... (sic)''

Peter said Davy will be ''much missed'' and he offered his ''deepest sympathy'' to the late singer's TV presenter wife Jessica Pacheo, who he married in August 2009.

In a message on the social networking site, Peter wrote: ''It is with great sadness that I reflect on the sudden passing of my long-time friend and fellow-adventurer, David Jones.

''His talent will be much missed; his gifts will be with us always. My deepest sympathy to Jessica and the rest of his family. Adios, to the Manchester Cowboy.''

Michael Nesmith - who didn't join the original members of the group, Davy, Micky and Peter - in reuniting for a 45th anniversary tour last year - also revealed he will ''miss'' the pop icon.

He wrote: ''I will miss him, but I won't abandon him to mortality. I will think of him as existing within the animating life that insures existence.''

A number of other stars took to their twitter accounts to pay tribute to Davy - who was born in Manchester, North West England - including actors William Shatner and Will Smith, as well as brunette actress Eva Longoria.

The 'Star Trek' legend wrote on twitter: ''My condolences go out to the family of Davy Jones. MBB. (sic)''

And the 'Despearte Housewives' star tweeted: ''My heart is sad that my favorite Monkee Davey Jones has passed away! #I'mABeliever. (sic)''

The Beatles' drummer Ringo Starr also released a short statement, saying: ''God bless Davy. Peace and Love to his family, Ringo.''

Davy left behind four daughters, Talia Elizabeth, 43, and Sarah Lee, 40 from his marriage to Linda Haines, and Jessica Lillian, 30, and 23-year-old Annabel Charlotte from his marriage to Anita Pollinger.

The Monkees were created to appear in their own self-titled TV show in the 60s and they went on to record classics such as 'Daydream Believer', 'Last Train To Clarksville', and 'I'm A Believer' among their nine top-40 hits.
