Davy Jones funeral took place on Wednesday (March 7, 2012), little more than a week after the Manchester-born Monkee died aged 65. Reuters reports that the ceremony was extremely low-key and took place not far from his home in Florida with only immediate family members attending. A spokesperson for Jones said that his body was to be cremated and his ashes returned to his native North West England.
None of The Monkees were in attendance, with the other three now expected to pay their respects at a future public memorial. It is, said the group's Micky Dolenz, not too much of a surprise, as he told Billboard "My understanding is they want to avoid a media circus and... the family wants to keep it very, very low-key and very, very private, and you can imagine as soon as one or two or any of us were to show up, it would very quickly be degraded into something that I don't think his immediate family would want to deal with. So I'm kind of expecting their wishes, whatever their wishes may be."
