Following Katy Perry’s departure from the upcoming Smurfs movie, her place has been taken by none other than... Demi Lovato, everyone! According to the Washington Post Lovato will voice the character of Smurfette in the third feature film of the franchise, Get Smurfy, in the place of Perry, who starred in the first two films, released in 2011 and 2013.

Demi Lovato is excited to "get smurfy" in place of Katy Perry.

In a promotional video released to introduce the new casting, the Heart Attack singer said: "I'm so excited to announce that I will be voicing Smurfette in the new fully-animated Smurfs movie."

The film, which also stars Rain Wilson as the evil wizard Gargamel and Mandy Patinkin as Papa Smurf, bills itself as an origin story for the tiny, blue creatures we know and love from the infamous cartoon and numerous McDonalds Happy Meals.

The movie also marks a return to form for Demi Lovato, who started her career acting in children’s movies. Back then she was a Disney Channel regular, achieving her first big break with Camp Rock, where she starred opposite the Jonas brothers and cemented her place in every tween girl's heart.

But the singer isn’t abandoning her other projects either. In recent weeks, meanwhile, Demi has been linked with a role on the UK version of the X Factor, with reports claiming Simon Cowell is keen to have her on the show.
