Based on the memoirs 'A Long Way Home' written by the real Saroo Brierley along with Larry Buttrose, the story follows Saroo's (Patel) search as an adult for his Indian family, having been raised by Australian adoptive parents Sue (Nicole Kidman) and John (David Wenham). Though most of his early years are forgotten, there are a few crucial memories that have remained. He remembers being trapped on a train for two days after losing his brother, and eventually ending up in Calcutta nearly 1,500 kilometres away from home.

Saroo Brierley has lived a good life with his caring mother and father in Australia, but as he grows older, memories begin to return to Saroo of his life before he was adopted.

When he was young, Saroo lived with his family in a small village and since the father of the family left years earlier, Saroo's mother looks after him, his 2 elder brothers and young sister; she works as often as she can to feed and care for her children but often that just wasn't enough. Wishing to help the family, the two elder boys would often go off and beg at the busy railway station and find occasional work helping sweep trains.

When Guddu announces that he's going to the train station, his younger brother (Saroo) asks if he can go with him, he accepts and the boys set out on their journey. With his little brother feeling tired, Guddu leaves his brother to rest and tells him to stay where he is. The five year old did what he was told for a while but soon grew impatient by his brother's absence, he decides to go look around the train station and eventually falls asleep on a stationary train thinking his brother would know where he was. When the little boy awakes he finds himself speeding through unfamiliar landscapes with no way to escape.

Is Ang Lee's 'Life Of Pi' The New 'Slumdog Millionaire'?

Ang Lee Dev Patel Danny Boyle Suraj Sharma Ben Affleck Steven Spielberg

Ang Lee makes his latest assault on awards' season this week, when Life Of Pi hits theaters in the U.S. The magical 3-D tale is tipped for nominations at both the Golden Globes and the Oscars, though getting the public on-side and recording a large box-office opening would ultimately help its cause.

The movie - based on Yann Martel's thrilling novel of the same name - follows a young boy named Pi who sails from India to Canada with a cargo of zoo animals. When the ship sinks, he finds himself alone on a life-raft with only a Bengal tiger for company. Comparisons are already being made with Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, the multi-Academy Award winning 2008 movie that explored similar themes. Both films have young Indian lead characters who undergo intense inner journeys, as well as the literal adventures playing out on-screen. Both actors - Dev Patel in Slumdog and Suraj Sharma in Pi - were making their feature film debuts, though the former had some experience of television, whereas Sharma had next to no acting on his CV. Both films are visually stunning, with Danny Boyle's classic knocking the Academy for six with its rich colours and depiction of the hustle and bustle of Mumbai life. Ang Lee ultimately went down the 3-D route and anyone who has witnessed the preview trailer screening this year were utterly convinced he had made the correct decision. The vast seascape lends itself well to the new format and Lee has plenty of experience in making movies with aesthetics in mind. In terms of narratives, both movies are told through flashbacks with the tales eventually having religious connotations or messages.

Slumdog Millionaire was a true sleeper hit; a movie that appeared to come from nowhere before generating rapid pace as it hurtled towards awards' season. The Artist did something similar this year, as did The Hurt Locker in 2008. However, if Life of Pi is to challenge for Best Picture in February it will not be on the back of word of mouth - moviegoers will know how they feel about the movie pretty soon, with three months still to go before the Oscars. It sits at around fifth favorite with the bookmakers to win the biggest movie prize of them all, but Ben Affleck's Argo (the sleeper) and Steven Spielberg's Lincoln (the blockbuster) appear to have the bases covered.

Andy Murray Enjoys The Perks Of The Job At Burberry Show

Andy Murray Anna Wintour Victoria Pendleton Harry Styles Harvey Weinstein Dev Patel

Would Burberry have wanted Scottish tennis ace Andy Murray wandering down their red carpet at London Fashion Week had he not recently become US Open Champion? We have our doubts, though the 25-year-old seemed happy enough with the invite as he and girlfriend Kim Sears rubbed shoulders with fashion’s elite this week.

Murray was actually given front row seats next to US Vogue editor and generally terrifying fashion person Anna Wintour, though he did seem a little uncomfortable. Elsewhere, Olympic gold medal cyclist Victoria Pendleton also attended the show, and was sure to insist that her front row seat was definitely not the product of her recent success, telling the Metro newspaper, “I’ve wanted so long to come to an event at fashion week, and Burberry have asked me for a couple of seasons and I’ve been so busy training that I had to say no.” Finishing off the all-star front row at the event in Kensington was hotshot American film producer Harvey Weinstein, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ actor Dev Patel and One Direction singer Harry Styles.

London’s five-day fashion extravaganza comes to an end on Tuesday (September 18th) with shows from the likes of Mulberry and Simone Rocha.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel Review

Very Good
Colourful and engaging, this lively comedy-drama gives a handful of mature actors terrific roles to play within a bustling international setting. It feels a bit cute and tame, but it's still entertaining.

Seven retirees meet at the airport as they move to Rajasthan to retire in a newly restored hotel. Evelyn (Dench) is financially strapped due to her late husband's debts. Muriel (Smith) is getting a faster, cheaper hip replacement.

Douglas and Jean (Nighy and Wilton) can't afford to retire in Britain. Graham (Wilkinson) has unfinished business in India. And Norman and Madge (Pickup and Imrie) are both single and looking for love. But manager Sonny (Patel) has slightly exaggerated the hotel's facilities.
