Diana Ross is reportedly in talks with the organisers of Glastonbury Festival to perform there next year. If confirmed, she’ll be playing the famous ‘legends slot’ on Sunday afternoon on the Pyramid Stage.

Could Diana Ross be heading for Glastonbury next year?

An insider source told The Sun “it won’t be cheap but she’s worth every penny. She still tours around the world and puts on a fantastic show.”

Following this year’s appearance by Dolly Parton, which saw over half of the festival’s population descend upon the main stage, it’s getting to the point where the legends spot is as important as deciding the headliners themselves. If Glastonbury does manage to land Diana Ross, it will be sure to be a spectacular show, even though the sight of such a famous diva in wellington boots will be an odd one.

In terms of chart success, Diana Ross is rivalled by very few. In both the US and the UK, she’s had almost as many Top 40 singles as Madonna, if you include her hits with The Supremes. She went on to have regular success right through to the 1980s. Her last UK Top 10 singles was as recent as 2005, though regrettably it was a soppy duet with Westlife entitled ‘When You Tell Me That You Love Me’.

The festival has also done a good job in recent years with attracting renowned divas to Worthy Farm. Dame Shirley Bassey, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga won’t turn up just for any old festival. One trusts that the backstage catering is significantly better than the standard dodgy burger vans that traditionally frequent such festivals.

2015 will be the last Glastonbury before the now-routine ‘off year’. Every four years, the Eavis family who own Worthy Farm allow the grass on the fields to recover. Having nearly 200,000 walking over the venue takes a severe toll on the land, not to mention the enormous clear-up operations every year.
