Wild Life Festival 2016 - Live Review

After winning the Best New Festival Award in 2015, Wild Life was back at Brighton City Airport to now showcase and cement its date in the festival calendar as a major player. To do this, it would need to go one better, bring in something neoteric and exhilarating, whilst also landing some grand-musical heavyweights. They arrived in the form of grime's latest stars Stormzy and Skepta, American vets Ice Cube and Busta Rhymes, and pop artists Bastille.

Wild Life Festival 2016 - Live Review

It was the former N.W.A lyricist who had the crowd trembling at his figure tips though. Supported by no more than his son (not O'Shea Jackson who plays his father in Straight Outta Compton), Ice Cube was the penultimate act on Sunday's main stage and stole the show. The set of the weekend, despite co-curators Disclosure and Rudimental headlining the festival for successive years.

With both Stormzy and Skepta having tracks appear ubiquitously over all radio stations, this was their moment to shine, their moment under the spotlight. They appeared on the main stage Saturday and Sunday respectively and both seemed to revere their audience from the first moment, with Stormzy indicating it was the biggest and best crowd he had every performed at - it probably was for Skepta too.

Possibly the only major festival where you can enjoy fine gourmet cuisine while rocking out to an eclectic variety of international artists, Outside Lands has now unveiled the 2014 line-up as it prepares to return to San Francisco this August.

We just can't express our excitement enough at the newly revealed line-up for Outside Lands this year. Topping the bill are the likes of Kanye West, The Killers and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers; three very different artists which see the latter become the first act ever to headline twice following their incredible set in 2013. Now in its seventh year, Outside Lands are showing signs of development every single summer, and at much benefit for the city with a percentage of every ticket sale going to San Francisco's Recreation and Park Department.

The Act That Should Have Won A BRIT Award, London Grammar

London Grammar Bastille Disclosure

Bastille may have walked away with the BRIT Award for Best British Breakthrough Act, but were they the most deserving winners of the gong? Their 2013 debut album ‘Bad Blood’ did reach number one in the UK music chart, but so did Eughan Quigg’s self-titled album in 2009. We’re definitely joking here, Bastille is in no way comparable to Eughan (no disrespect, Eughan), but number ones have been misleading indicators of quality music in the past!

bastille brit awards Bastille brought home the BRIT at last Wednesday's awards

Bastille have produced some catchy and very popular tracks over the past couple of years and are certainly owed some recognition for this. They’re talented musicians who we envisage having the long lifeline of super band, Arctic Monkeys, especially since ‘Bad Blood’ has returned to the number one spot since their BRIT win. The problem is the deflated feeling we’ve had since they bagged the award. Not because Bastille didn‘t deserve to win, but because there was another act in the running who really blew us away in 2013.

The line-up for this year's Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival has been announced and looks to be more impressive than ever with Elton John, Kanye West, Lionel Richie, Jack White and Vampire Weekend all gracing the Manchester, Tenn. stages across the four-day celebration. The festival, which will be held from the 12th to the 15th June this year, will serve up an enviable mix of genres.

Elton John
Elton John Will Lead This Year's Incredible Bonnaroo Festival Line-Up.

Bonnaroo Festival is famous for having provided a stage to one of Kanye West's famous rants last time he played in 2008. The rapper and his fans reacted with outrage when Kanye's originally late night set was shifted to a performance during broad daylight, provoking a classic caps-lock tirade from the short-fused star.

Tonight's BRIT Awards Preview: Who's Performing, Who's Up For A Prize?

All set for the BRIT Awards this evening? Indeed, Britain's biggest night of music awards will take place today and we're feeling pretty excited for the ceremony, which is set to be as spectacular as ever. Of course, if it was purely based on sales, most of the awards would go to One Direction, who have sold 3.19 million albums in the past year. Luckily that's not the case and the awards look set to be handed out to a diverse range of acts who've made their mark on music this year.

Katy Perry
Nominated 'International Female Solo Artist' Will Be Bringing Her Pop Hits To Tonight's Ceremony.

This year's musical entertainment will be provided by Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, Ellie Goulding Arctic Monkeys, Rudimental, Bruno Mars, Bastille, and Lorde but a rumour has arisen that Prince may make a surprise performance with his band, 3rdEyeGirl. The funk singer has been delighting Londoners with surprise gigs over the past week so it's highly plausible that he'll make the BRIT Awards his final London date.

Disclosure, Offline Dexterity Single Review

Squarepusher has a lot to answer for. In the mid 90's, he made subtle, arty dance music a force to be reckoned with, "Feed Me Weird Things" demonstrating to the world that dance music didn't have to be all hollow bravado and posturing. Trouble is, nobody seems to have told Disclosure that not everyone can pull this style of music off - and they fail to pull it off quite spectacularly on this single.
