Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton2016 has been quite the year for Dolly Parton

She turned 70-years-old this year and yet she still rocks her bottle blonde locks, bright make-up, sexy curves and rhinestone-studded stage outfits better than anyone. But it's not just her glamour that has maintained her household name status, not is it just her epic international hits like 'Jolene', '9 To 5', 'I Will Always Love You' and 'Coat of Many Colors'.

Dolly Parton's Country Telethon Raises Millions For Smoky Mountains Victims

The 70 year old legend said in a new video statement that her organisation would provide help to families affected by the fires “until they get back up on their feet”.

At least seven people are known to have died in the fires in Sevier County and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which at one point threatened her theme park Dollywood and caused it to be evacuated.

Jack White Calls For Gender Equality

Jack White White Stripes Dolly Parton

Jack White gave a speech on gender equality in Nashville on Wednesday (13.07.16).

The 41-year-old rocker - who fronted The White Stripes before calling time on the band in 2011 - was appointed to the Nashville Gender Equality Council and took to the stage at a press conference for the launch of a study into the issue in the city.

Jack - who is from Detroit - said: ''In my life in the arts, I have always considered it unfair when producing a record, for example, that a drummer would be paid less than a singer, simply because that singer had an agent or representative. They are both creating regardless of their instrument or even their experience. They should be paid the same. Now wouldn't it be just as ridiculous to pay two fiddle players a different wage because one of them is male and one is female? I think so. It is embarrassing that in 2016 there are any differences in benefits or wages between genders in our society. Gender equity is something that should've been solved a century ago worldwide, and it is sad that we even need to address it. If the person does the work, the benefits of doing that work, should be equal among all human beings.''

Was Dolly Parton Really Miming At Glastonbury?

Dolly Parton Eminem

It’s nothing new for a universally acclaimed artist to mime in front of huge crowds. Eminem mimed his way through his 2013 Reading Festival headline appearance and still received a mostly positive reaction from a boisterous crowd. But for most live music enthusiasts, an artist miming in a live setting is nothing short of a heinous crime, an unforgivable cardinal sin that betrays the entire point and of live performance and leaves the artist devoid of integrity. Perhaps that best explains the furore that greeted Dolly Parton’s Glastonbury set as many people asked the question- “was Dolly miming?”

'Mimegate' sparked a huge debate over whether the singer was actually singing during her set.

Q.1) Did Dolly Parton Mime At Glastonbury? Q.2) Should We Care?

Dolly Parton Glastonbury Festival

Dolly Parton has been hit with accusations that she mimed songs during her Glastonbury Festival performance last weekend. The 68 year-old country and western star topped off her recent UK tour to promote her new album, Blue Smoke, with a long-awaited appearance on the Pyramid Stage at the Somerset site.

However, her performance has drawn criticism from many who believe that the singer mouthed the words to a pre-recorded track onstage instead of singing live. In the face of the scrutiny, Parton's spokesman has responded with an outright denial: "No, she sings live," he told the Sunday Mirror. "Some people don't know an amazing singer when they hear one."

It was Kay Burley of Sky News who first decided to air her views regarding Dolly's perceived miming. "Oh, Dolly is miming. How disappointing," she tweeted, ahead of a string of similar sentiments from users of the social site. However, TV host Stephen Fry jumped to Parton's defence, blaming television-related delays for making it look like Dolly's sound wasn't synched.

Dolly Parton - 'Blue Smoke Tour' First Direct Arena, Leeds June 2014 Live Review

There are showgirls and then there's Dolly Parton; a larger-than-life, joyful megastar who is still concerned with impressing her fans and making sure every one of them feels included. As a sea of pink, fluffy cowboy hats and rhinestone-embellished denim vests filed into the new First Direct Leeds Arena on Friday night, it would be easy yet incorrect to dismiss Parton as a gimmick who only appeals to tipsy older ladies on a hen night.

Dolly Parton - Live Review

Eschewing any support acts for a two-part, gargantuan set to celebrate new greatest hits album 'Blue Smoke', Dolly struts out onstage wearing a glittering, corseted dress - armed and ready to give a country and western hoedown to remember. Splicing her 1978 hit 'Baby I'm Burning' together with Alicia Keys' 'Girl On Fire', Parton kicked off a riotous celebration of country, folk, bluegrass and pop.

Early sound difficulties make the first set of songs hard on the ears and the sound completely cuts out mid-way through 'Jolene', leading to farcical "we can't hear you!" chants from the audience and charades from Parton. The issues are soon rectified and brushed away, and another rendition of 'Jolene' is tacked onto the end of the set to much applause.

Dolly Parton Supports Goddaughter Miley Cyrus’s Wild Behaviour: “I Was Just Trashy"

Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton has decided to take aim on critics who so often slam Miley Cyrus for her wild child behaviour.

The country singer, who is the godmother of the 21 year-old, believes Cyrus is receiving an unfair amount of abuse for performing in racy outfits, and behaving crudely.

Parton can also relate to the former Disney Star, as she was also victimized for similar things in her younger days.

Dolly Parton For Glastonbury Festival 2014?

Dolly Parton Glastonbury Festival Kenny Rogers

Is legendary country star Dolly Parton in line for Glastonbury 2014? A suspicious gap in her UK June touring schedule suggests it could be a possibility.

The 'Jolene' singer would make a wonderful addition to next year's Glastonbury Festival line-up and, although nothing has yet been confirmed, it looks like there's a major gap to fill on her 2014 UK summer tour. The festival is set for June 25th - 29th 2014 with bands playing, as per usual, on the last three days. Although Dolly will be hitting London's O2 Arena on Friday 27th, she has the following weekend free which would certainly open up a Glastonbury opportunity. Exciting stuff! Plus, her fellow country star and 'Islands In The Stream' collaborator Kenny Rogers hit up the Pyramid Stage at this year's event and, after a show like that, there's definitely a fresh demand for country legends.

We are hoping, of course, that Dolly doesn't wind up in any more accidents while hitting her UK tour next year, following yesterday's 'fender bender' which took place in Nashville. She revealed in a statement yesterday (October 21st 2013): 'I was in a fender bender this morning, here in Nashville. But I am all good. Just a little tired and sore, resting at home.'

Folk You! Emmylou Harris Denies Hit-And-Run Attack In Court

Emmylou Harris Bob Dylan Dolly Parton

Emmylou Harris has entered a plea of "not guilty" after being charged with a hit-and-run attack in October. The legendary country singer, songwriter and backing vocalist was charged when police deemed she had crashed her rental into another car while travelling on the 405 freeway, fleeing the scene shortly afterwards.

According to TMZ.com, the Los Angeles County District Attorney filed the misdemanor charge against Emmylou today (January 31, 2013), though the 65-year-old Grammy winner denied the whole thing. She is charged with slamming into another person's car on October 1st 2012 around 10pm, before taking off. Emmylou's representative acknowledged the incident, though described it as a "garden-variety accident that happens every day on the 405," claiming the singer only left the scene because had no idea she had hit another car. Worryingly, Emmylou's not guilty plea means she faces around 6 months in jail if she is convicted of the hit-and-run charge.

A long-time collaborator of Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Mark Knopfler and Dolly Parsons, Emmylou remains one of the biggest names in folk music. Her last studio album, 2010's Hard Bargain, reached No.3 on the U.S. country chart and No.18 on the Billboard Hot 200.

Joyful Noise Review

OK
Life-affirming to the point of distraction, this comedy is so warm and cosy that it never even approaches believability. If only writer-director Graff had injected the film with half as much earthy energy as he puts into the terrific musical numbers. And let the cast out of the box.

At a down-home church in Pacashau, Georgia, GG (Parton) is peeved when she's not offered the job after her choir-director father (a brief Kris Kristofferson cameo) dies. The new leader is her rival Vi Rose (Latifah), who plans to win the upcoming regional competition with pure gospel. To further stir things up, GG's bad-boy grandson Randy (Jordan) is back in town, and he's smitten with Vi Rose's 16-year-old daughter Olivia (Palmer).
