E.L. James Announces Fifty Shades Of Grey Cast

Charlie Hunnam Dakota Johnson Antonio Banderas Melanie Griffith Don Johnson

E.L. James, the author of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, announced the casting for the film adaptation via Twitter.

Charlie Hunnam
Charlie Hunnam is Christian Grey.

The author tweeted twice yesterday (Monday 2nd September). Firstly announcing who would be playing her heroine Anastasia Steele, namely Dakota Johnson, and then that Charlie Hunnan has been cast as Christian Grey. She wrote "I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey." Then later she tweeted the Charlie Hunnam news, describing the actor as "gorgeous and talented."

Leonardo Di Caprio arrives for the premiere of DJango Unchained

Of all the films being released close to Christmas time, perhaps only Django Unchained can rival Les Miserables for the sheer star power assembled amongst the cast. Both high budget films had their American premiere this week, and though Les Mis could boast a mighty triumvirate of Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe, they were surely eclipsed by the embarrassment of riches that showed up last night in New York for Quentin Tarantino's new warped Western flick.

Django Unchained Trailer

German bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz is on the hunt for a brutal gang of murderers, the Brittle brothers. His search leads him to the only person who has information on the group, Django, who is a slave living in the deep south of the States. Schultz crosses his path as he finds Django shackled to a group of other slaves who are all being taken to auction. Posing as a dentist, Schultz requests to buy him from his owners. On the owners' refusal, Schultz ruthlessly shoots them to death and takes the slave. The bounty hunter promises to free Django and take him to rescue his wife, Broomhilda, who has been enslaved by a Mississippi plantation owner on the dead or alive capture of the Brittle brothers. On their success, Schultz frees Django as promised but the pair decides to stick together as bounty hunters full time. Their search for Broomhilda leads him to the 'Candyland' plantation owner Calvin Candie who has trainer Ace Woody train slaves to fight each other for sport. The bounty hunters arouse suspicion from loyal house slave Stephen as they arrive to explore the property under a false guise and soon become under threat by a dangerous organisation who are determined not to let them escape with Broomhilda.

Machete Review

Very Good
Essentially part three of the Grindhouse series, this old-style thriller sprang from Rodriguez's fake trailer. In some ways it should have stayed that short, because while it's riotously entertaining, there's nothing much to it.

Machete (Trejo) is a disgraced Mexican Federale who's hiding amongst the illegal immigrants on the Texas-Mexico border. Here he stumbles into a conspiracy involving a trigger-happy senator (DeNiro) and a wild-eyed vigilante (Johnson) who are cleaning up the border one bullet at a time. But he also runs up against a sexy immigration officer (Alba), a ruthless businessman (Fahey) and a trail of criminality leading to his nemesis Torrez (Seagal). As things get nasty, he gets help from his priest brother (Marin) and a feisty taco-truck lady (Rodriguez).

Machete Trailer

Machete is a ex-Federale whose legend is known throughout Mexico. He's an expert killer but he's left that life behind. Now living in Texas Machete starts looking for work as a day labourer, when a businessman named Michael Benz approaches Machete with a proposition of assassinating a corrupt Senator, he knew he should refuse the offer but Benz's argument for the death of the senator was very strong, he convinces Machete that the senator is about to send hundreds of illegal immigrants out of the US and Machete accepts the offer. When the day of the assignation arrives, it suddenly becomes apparent that Machete has been double crossed. Injured by a gunshot he's taken to hospital to tend to his wound, just able to escape from the guards Machete looks toward old friends to help hunt down and take revenge on the people behind the double cross.

When In Rome Review

Weak
Despite its over-the-top zaniness, this romantic comedy manages to keep us entertained with its starry cast and a nutty plot. If only the filmmakers had resisted the urge to exaggerate both the humour and the sentimentality.

Guggenheim curator Beth (Bell) is organising an important museum event when she has to dash to Rome for her sister's sudden wedding, where she begins to fall for best man Nick (Duhamel), who rescues her from a few embarrassing moments but lets her down romantically. In a funk, she swipes some coins from a fountain then ends up being stalked back in New York by the lovelorn guys (painter Arnett, wannabe model Shepard, street magician Heder and art patron DeVito) who threw them into the water.

When In Rome Trailer

When Beth attends her sisters sporadic wedding in Rome, she expects to fulfil her duties as maid of honour and return to her job focused life in New York. Sick of waiting for love to take its natural course, Beth takes matters into her own hands and jumps into the Fontana di Amore from which she takes a few of the coins to bring her luck on her quest to find love.

A Boy And His Dog Review

Very Good
In the future, your dog will tell you how to survive. Or at least, Don Johnson's dog will, in this camp, cult, sci-fi classic (which takes place after World War IV). While it's still a bit racy, it's tame enough now for the whole family!

Goodbye Lover Review

Good
Patricia Arquette plays a Sound of Music-obsessed, Martha Stewart wannabe, psychotic killer in this slightly clever but ultimately not-clever-enough comedy/film noir. While Arquette is delish, the story ultimately lacks much compelling material that isn't lifted from Double Indemnity or one of its contemporaries. Okay for a Sunday night, but hardly great filmmaking, especially from Roland Joffé, who's done better.

Paradise Review

Very Good
Paradise was supposed to be a star vehicle for Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson -- who were then on something like their eighth marriage and running on star power fumes. This was not exactly Burton and Taylor in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

The couple is not the reason to watch this down home drama; it's the secondary plot that resonates. When you're a kid, there are moments when the curtain gets pulled away from the world you know and reality starts making some unpleasant appearances. That realization is tenderly presented in the performances from a prepubescent Elijah Wood and Thora Birch (Ghost World).

Good

A darkly comic, manifold double-cross, murder-for-insurance-moneymovie, "Goodbye Lover" invokes film noir by way of Hitchcockand Tarantino as it follows a cast of sexpot ne'er-do-wells through a plotof increasingly familiar twists.

Patricia Arquette stars as Sandra Dunmore, an oddball, fashion victim, femme fatale in a blonde pageboy 'do, who seduces her brother-in-lawwhile plotting her husband's murder -- or so it seems at first.

Said brothers -- Dermot Mulroney (husband, misanthropicdrunk) and Don Johnson (cocky Casanova) -- are both insured for millionsby the upscale public relations firm at which they are executives, and, under the enticement of Sandra, have each developed nefarious designs onthe other.
