There's trouble in a sleepy Ontario town when serial murders turn out to be ritualistic in nature in Susan Sarandon's new detective thriller 'The Calling'.

Susan Sarandon has her hands full as Detective Inspector Hazel Micallef in eerie serial murder mystery flick 'The Calling' out later this year. It feels like a classic killer thriller, but can it live up to the novel? And, more importantly, will it become the next trilogy to look out for?

We've been quite into our small town murders recently, what with FX's 'Fargo' becoming such a hit, so it's only right that we get excited about another creepy case set in a quiet wilderness. The movie is based on the first mystery novel of the same name published in 2008 by Michael Redhill under the pseudonym Inger Ash Wolfe (cool name or what?). He revealed himself as the author back in 2012 with many reviews previously suggesting his true identity was everyone from Margaret Atwood to Farley Mowat; he's a mystery unto himself.

The Calling Trailer

Hazel Micallef (Susan Sarandon) is a Detective Inspector leaving a rather peaceful existence in the small town of Fort Dundas, Ontario with her ageing mother Emily (Ellen Burstyn). She rarely has to deal with any major crimes in such a quiet district, but all that's about to change when she discovers the body of an old woman who had been brutally murdered. Alongside detective Ray Greene (Gil Bellows), they set out to investigate the vicious crime and discover a series of other bodies along the way which all have one thing in common: the mouths of each victim have all been physically manipulated to form, consecutively, the syllables of an ancient latin prayer of resurrection. They enlist the help of priest Father Price in a bid to uncover the intent behind the killer's deeds, and prevent the prayer from being completed with more victims.

Peeta Mellark and the other Hunger Games survivors are being kept and brainwashed by President Snow, who is attempting to quell the disturbance of Panem with a series of propaganda television broadcasts, but when Beetee interrupts one broadcast with a pirate transmission, he thrusts a serious threat upon Snow's government with one simple phrase: 'The Mockingjay lives'.

Jennifer Lawrence channelled Panem’s District 1 whilst appearing at the Cannes film festival. The 23-year-old actress appeared alongside her ‘Hunger Games’ co-stars wearing an unusual Dior skirt and top.

Jennifer Lawrence was joined by her fellow Hunger Games cast whilst in Cannes on Saturday 17th May. The actress, best known for playing Katniss Everdeen, has turned heads over the last year with her daring yet brilliantly executed red carpet looks.

Jennifer Lawrence's matching skirt and top certainly turned heads at the Cannes' photocall.

The 23-year-old looked lovely with her short hair curled and resting just below her ear. She wore an unusual outfit which included a white skirt complete with frilled mesh and a crop top which a pattern which would not have looked out of place in the Panem’s District 1. The Dior top was emblazoned with a motif, designed to look like a window in which a sea-side landscape could be clearly seen. The back of her unusual top was split and looked as if she were wearing a pair of wings. She completed the two piece ensemble with silver earrings and matching pointed silver heeled shoes.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Review

Extraordinary

After 2012's The Hunger Games caught us off-guard with its subtle themes, this sequel more than lives up to the hype, dramatically expanding the scale of the action while letting the actors deepen their characters. It's a full-on action epic that cleverly retains author Suzanne Collins' narrative trick of telling the story through a flawed perspective. And it provides the needed push to give the whole saga real momentum.

We join our heroes not long after the last film ended: Katniss and Peeta (Lawrence and Hutcherson) are in trouble for challenging the authority of President Snow (Sutherland) and sowing the seeds of rebellion in the districts. Now they have to travel around the nation with their team - drunken mentor Haymitch (Harrelson), preening manager Effie (Banks), quietly subversive designer Cinna (Kravitz) - soothing ruffled feathers. But of course they only make things worse. So new Gamesmaker Plutarch (Hoffman) plots a way to force them back into the games with all of the past victors, so they can be wiped out for good. And Katniss is so busy worrying about protecting Peeta that she fails to remember who the true enemy is.

Screenwriters Beaufoy and deBruyn (aka Oscar-winner Michael Arndt) inventively maintain Katniss' narrow, inaccurate point-of-view right through the film, which keeps the audience wrong-footed all the way to the end. It's an exhilarating trick that makes the tour of the districts painfully dull and the return to the games utterly horrifying. It also gives Lawrence the chance to flex her own Oscar-winning chops, further tormenting us with her inability to choose between two good men: Peeta and Gale (Hemsworth), her pal back home. She certainly doesn't trust newcomers like the mouthy Johanna (Malone) or the too-hunky Finnick (Claflin).

The Odeon Cinema in London's Leicester Square was host to the world premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on Monday night (Nov 11), and the stars and guests were on hand to make a big impression as they graced the red carpet. Dressed to the nines, the place awash with beautiful people as they paraded their wares, and no one parades better than Jennifer Lawrence.

Dressed in a backless white Dior gown, Lawrence looked impeccable as she oozed style whilst greeting fans and signing autographs down the red carpet. The actress thanked fans for showing up in their droves despite the torrid weather conditions, reportedly saying (via Variety) at one point: “I’ve been out here five minutes and I’m complaining!”

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Trailer

After becoming the first duo to win the annual Hunger Games following its 74th year, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark have spread hope among the people of Panem who now feel the possibility of a revolution. However, the Capitol realise how dangerous this could be for their ordered, totalitarian society and force them to compete once again, alongside 22 other previous winners in the The Quarter Quell - an event that happens every 25th years and allows the Capitol to invent a new twist for the year's Games. Tensions arise between Katniss and Peeta who both want the other to be the victor in the 75th Hunger Games and do everything within their power to protect each other.

'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' is the highly anticipated sequel to 2012's 'The Hunger Games'; the film adaptation to Suzanne Collins' sci-fi novel trilogy. Taking over from Gary Ross as director is Francis Lawrence ('I Am Legend', 'Constantine', 'Water for Elephants') with screenwriting from Simon Beaufoy ('The Full Monty', 'Slumdog Millionaire', '127 Hours') and Michael Arndt ('Oblivion', 'Toy Story 3', 'Little Miss Sunshine'), though we'll still see the same star cast reprising their roles. The first full trailer for the Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire has been released, debuting at the MTV Movie awards on Sunday (April 14, 2013). Recent Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence once again takes center stage as Katniss Everdeen, the winner of the brutal fight to the death who appears to have become a sign of hope for the rest of society.

The shadowy Capitol is less than pleased with the fanfare surrounding Katniss' return from the Hunger Games arena and want her removed. "She has become a beacon of hope for them, she has to be eliminated," says Donald Sutherland's President Snow, before Philip Seymour Hoffman's Plutarch Heavensbee adds, "I agree she should die, but in the right way, at the right time. Katniss Everdeen is a symbol, just her image. Show them she is one of us now, let them rally behind that."

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - Teaser Trailer

Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark have become symbols of hope to the people of the dystopic Panem after becoming the first pair to win the 74th Annual Hunger Games in a brutal battle to the death between two teenagers of each of the 12 famished districts. Now is the time they must leave their families to tackle a 'Victor's Tour' of each district. However, the President sees her as a threat to their capitalist society and vows to have her killed, but first to make the people of every district turn against her. Rebellion appears to be arising among the people and Katniss just wants to get through the tour safely. But with the 75th Games approaching, known as The Quarter Quell, the Capitol decide to introduce the biggest twist the Games have ever seen; a twist that will completely transform their nation.

The second instalment to this sci-fi dystopia trilogy is soon to arrive with direction being taken over by Francis Lawrence ('I Am Legend', 'Constantine', 'Water for Elephants'). This time, Oscar winning screenwriters Simon Beaufoy ('The Full Monty', 'Slumdog Millionaire', '127 Hours') and Michael Arndt ('Oblivion', 'Toy Story 3', 'Little Miss Sunshine') have adapted the novel series by Suzanne Collins and we will see a return of 'The Hunger Games' star cast. The Hunger Games Review

Excellent

Proclaimed "the next big franchise" before production even began, this first chapter of Suzanne Collins' trilogy manages to live up to the hype. It's rare to see a blockbuster with such a sharp political sensibility. And the actors are terrific in complex roles.

In what was once North America, the ruling class demands an annual sacrifice of the 12 districts that once rebelled: each must select two teens, a boy and a girl, to battle in a wooded arena to the death, with the last one standing crowned victor. In the poor mining District 12, the tributes are ace archer Katniss (Lawrence) and muscly baker Peeta (Hutcherson), who forge an awkward friendship as they're thrust into the televised competition. Trained by Haymitch (Harrelson), promoted by Effie (Banks), groomed by Cinna (Kravitz), interviewed by Caesar (Tucci) - it's simply overwhelming.

Remade from Michael Winner's 1972 thriller, this action movie can't be bothered to get as dark and edgy as it should be. But the cast members keep us watching, even as things turn unnecessarily grisly.

Elite hitman Arthur (Statham) lives a solitary life in a New Orleans bayou with his stinking wealth and exquisite taste. But he's shocked when his boss (Goldwyn) gives him his next assignment: to kill his mentor Harry (Sutherland).

Arthur is a cool professional, but now he's also wracked with guilt. So he takes Harry's wastrel son Steve (Foster) under his wing, teaching him the assassination trade and letting him practice during a few jobs. But the work gets increasingly dangerous, and soon it becomes apparent that Harry was set up. Revenge is in the air.

Fool's Gold Review

Terrible

Matt Damon does a mean Matthew McConaughey impersonation. The two hung out when they were struggling actors trying to break into the business, giving the former ample opportunity to study the latter's casual mannerisms. According to Damon's spot-on imitation, the chiseled McConaughey spends most of his time looking for an excuse to take off his shirt. Barbecue in the backyard? No shirt required. Church services on a Sunday morning? Leave the shirt at home.

This helps explain McConaughey's presence in Fool's Gold. The adventure-comedy is as pretty as it is dumb, but seeing as how it's set in the Caribbean, it does allow McConaughey ample opportunity to flex his pecs and sun his shoulders. Too bad for us it offers little else.

ABC received outraged complaints from Hyattsville, Maryland, following embellished crime statistics in an episode of 'Commander in Chief'.

Following a recent episode of 'Commander in Chief''s depiction of particular city, ABC has come under fire from the city's residents. ABC was forced to apologise to the citizens of Hyattsville, Maryland, a suburb of Washington DC in Prince George County, after the episode in question took certain liberties with the crime rates in the area.

Geena Davis plays President Mackenzie Allen in 'Commander in Chief'

The episode depicted Hyattsville as a crime-ridden place, with one character mentioning that 11 homicides had occurred in the area of Hyattsville in the past six months. But, unsurprisingly, the area took issues with this. Jim Keary, a spokesman for the County Executive Jack. B. Johnson, told the Associated Press: "We haven't had 11 homicides in Hyattsville in the past 10 years".

Final Fantasy Review

Fifty percent groundbreaking, breathtaking computer-generated visuals, 30 percent New Age spiritual hokum, 15 percent generic post-apocalyptic science fiction and five percent lame action flick clichés, "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" is such a eccentric amalgam of methods and moods that it's unlikely to leave anyone terribly impressed in the end. But absolutely everyone will be agog at the first 10 minutes.

Far and away the most mind-blowingly photo-realistic computer-animated movie to date, "Final Fantasy" wastes no time showing off what its huge staff of renderers can do, opening the picture with a fantastical dream sequence that includes a truly transporting alien landscape unequaled in the history of sci-fi cinema.

Its billowy red sky, gigantic looming moon, crystalline rock formations and sweeping vistas feel as real as another world could on screen. This was most definitely not shot through fancy filters in a quarry somewhere.
