Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is to be replaced after it was vandalised on Wednesday (October 26th).

Deadline reported that a man, posing as a city construction worker, set up a barrier out of cones and tape around the Republican presidential candidate’s star on Hollywood Boulevard, just outside the Dolby Theatre, before dawn. He took a hammer and a pick-axe to the pink star, damaging the name and the camera icon in the centre beyond recognition in the process.

In a statement later in the day, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce CEO Leron Gubler said that Trump’s star would be replaced as soon as possible, but that it would be a few days before that could be arranged.

“When people are unhappy with one of our honorees, we would hope that they would project their anger in more positive ways than to vandalize a California state landmark,” he said, criticising the actions of the vandal. “Our democracy is based on respect for the law. People can make a difference by voting and not destroying public property.”

He then said that the person who had committed the act would be prosecuted, as would anybody who was caught defacing “any Walk of Fame star that has been vandalized.”

However, the vandal then identified himself online as Jamie Otis, telling Deadline that he had planned to remove the star completely intact and auction it off online on election day (November 8th) in order to raise money for the dozen women who’ve come forward to claim they were sexually assaulted by Trump – people whom the presidential candidate has promised to sue “after the election is over” in a Gettysburg campaign stop four days ago.

LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman later said in a statement: “We're reviewing surveillance footage from local businesses and when the case is completed, it will be submitted to the district attorney for filing of a felony vandalism charge.”
