Drake once again dominated Spotify's annual Wrapped feature, being named the most streamed artist and claiming the most streamed track and album.
Another year, another strong showing for Drake at the top of Spotify’s annual lists of the most streamed music of the last 12 months.
On Thursday morning (December 1st), the streaming giant released its annual feature Wrapped, which reveals the artists that have made the biggest impression on the previous year in music.
The 30 year old Canadian rapper, who released his fifth album Views back in April, completely dominated in all categories in which he was eligible, claiming the titles for most streamed track (for ‘One Dance’), for most streamed album (Views) and the world’s most streamed artist.
Drake is the king of Spotify for the second year in a row
He has retained the latter title for the second year in a row, edging out heavyweights like Justin Bieber, Rihanna, TwentyOne Pilots and Kanye West, with a colossal 4.7 billion streams. Basically, more than half the world’s population listened to at least one Drake track in 2016.

As if all that wasn’t enough, ‘One Dance’ has also been confirmed as the most streamed track in Spotify history with 950 million plays, unseating Major Lazer, DJ Snake and MØ’s ‘Lean On’.
“Drake has been unstoppable this year - he’s a true global superstar,” said Spotify’s Chief Content and Chief Strategy Officer Stefan Bloom when the news was released.
Rihanna and Drake, performing together live in 2016, both had strong years
Another artist who had a strong year was Rihanna, Drake’s frequent collaborator and rumoured former lover. She topped the list for the most streamed female artist, with 2.5 billion streams, and her recent album ANTI made the top five most streamed albums and her Drake collaboration ‘Work’ featured in the same list for tracks.
