Baywatch Review

OK

Clearly, it's a risky proposition adapting a cheesy vintage TV series for the big screen: this is the second one that's gone awry this year, after CHiPs. But it doesn't have to be like this. Lively movie versions of Charlie's Angels and 21 Jump Street proved that with inventive writing, snarky performances and deranged energy, the result can be thoroughly entertaining. Sadly, this movie falls back on cheap jokes that simply aren't that funny. Fans of Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron will still have a good time - they're both unstoppably engaging - but the truth is that this simply isn't good enough.

We're back in Emerald Bay, where the beefy hotshot Mitch (Johnson) heads up the lifeguard crew with babes Stephanie and CJ (Ildenesh Hadera and Kelly Rohrbach). And now they're training up three new recruits: fallen Olympic swimming champ Matt (Efron), feisty hottie Summer (Alexandra Daddario) and pudgy geek Ronnie (Jon Bass). Meanwhile, as various crimes and calamities strike the beach, Mitch decides to investigate everything himself without the help of the local police. And as he becomes convinced that resort owner Victoria (Priyanka Chopra) is involved in bribery, extortion, drug running and murder, he sends his lifeguards undercover to catch her. Which of course is just a bit beyond what they were trained to do.

'Baywatch' might have received quite the beating from film critics and audiences alike, but that hasn't stopped the production team from mapping out a whole new story for a sequel already. The entire cast is expected to return, though there's not word yet on whether director Seth Gordon will be involved again.

Dwayne Johnson On The 'Relentlessly Sexy' Female Cast Of 'Baywatch'

Dwayne Johnson

Let's be honest; 'Baywatch' wouldn't be 'Baywatch' without the eye-candy and the new movie is no exception. Not only does it have Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron in lead roles, there's also some of Hollywood's most beautiful women including Alexandra Daddario and Kelly Rohrbach.

Dwayne Johnson Says Political Career Is "A Real Possibility"

Dwayne Johnson

In an era when total political outsiders can take the highest office in the land, many have reasoned that if Donald Trump can become president of the United States, why can’t somebody genuinely popular do the same, like Dwayne Johnson?

The 45 year old Fast and Furious star, nicknamed ‘The Rock’, stayed schtum when asked who he would be endorsing in last year’s presidential election, and The Washington Post suggested that he could be a considerable force if he ever decided to switch careers and run for political office.

Now, the actor has opened up in a new interview with GQ magazine that he does indeed have political aspirations, saying that a White House run was “a real possibility”.

Baywatch - Trailer and Clips

There is no better lifeguard team out there than that of Los Angeles' Baywatch. However, they are seriously losing money and in order to boost their brand, a PR executive encourages them to get some fresh blood on the team. Matt Brody may have landed two gold medals in the field, but that doesn't guarantee he'll be right for the squad. He's far from an impressive addition in the eyes of Mitch Buchanan; he may be prettier, but he hasn't got the brains or the brawn to match up to him. Matt thinks the job is just about educating people on sunburn and stopping them from drowning, but when it becomes clear that there's a drug ring in the area and a body subsequently washes up on the beach, their job gets a whole lot more complicated. Yeah, they should probably leave it to the police, but instead they decide on an unauthorised undercover sting operation instead. Maybe thrill-seeking Matt can teach Mitch and the team a thing or two about living life on the edge. Or maybe he'll just run like hell.

Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is one of the hottest properties in the world of Hollywood today. Recently starring in 'The Fate of the Furious', aka 'Fast & Furious 8', and leading the upcoming 'Baywatch' big screen release alongside Zac Efron, he's had one of the busiest work schedules as of late, which shows no signs of slowing down.

One of his upcoming projects for example is a live action adaptation of the retro video game 'Rampage', which saw huge monsters such as a rat and a gorilla stomping through cities, destroying everything in their path without much of an explanation as to why. It sounds awful and, to be fair, the game wasn't anything special, but Johnson will be bringing the game to the big screen in any case.

Dominic Toretto has gone rogue. It seemed like the game was finally up with Brian and Mia retiring from their fast and furious lifestyles, and Dom and Letty swapping that life for marriage, but as it turns out things are not that simple. Dom has apparently sold out his family and friends to embark on another dangerous adventure. He seems to have been lured into action again by a very beautiful but extremely dangerous individual named Cipher. She has some seriously advanced technology at her disposal that she wants to use to execute her plan to take control of every motor vehicle in the city and cause some serious mass destruction. But Letty refuses to lose faith in him because she's sure there must be something more going on, though she doesn't know what yet. She re-teams with Tej Parker and Hobbs and this time they got a tank. Unfortunately for Hobbs, the only way they can take on Dom and his new girlfriend is by enlisting the help of his criminal nemesis Deckard Shaw.

The reported on-set tensions between Furious 8 stars Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Vin Diesel seem to be continuing throughout the movie’s press tour, with new reports suggesting that the studio is having to keep them apart.

Dwayne Johnson Was Challenged And Moved By 'Moana'

Dwayne Johnson

After conquering movie genres from action to comedy, Dwayne Johnson is finally getting around to voicing an animated character in Disney's new hit Moana. And what he liked about this film is the way it avoids the usual stereotypes of your average animated Disney movie.

MoanaDwayne Johnson plays Maui in 'Moana'

"There is no love interest. And there's no damsel in distress character in here. She represents so many 15, 16-year-old girls out there," he says of the title character, who reminds him of his own 15-year-old daughter. "She's ambitious and has a really strong point of view. She wants to tackle the world. She loves tapping into her own identity and putting me in my place!"

As ticket sales for Dwayne Johnson's San Andreas cool off a little, two very different films are vying for the number-one spot this week: the third (but probably not the last) instalment of the Insidious horror series, and Melissa McCarthy's crime comedy Spy. And they're neck and neck after one day in cinemas according to Box Office Mojo - Insidious has made $10.4million, while Spy is slightly behind with $10.25m.

The directorial debut of actor-writer Leigh Whannell, Insidious: Chapter 3 has received a warmer critical reception than many people expected, but its opening-day haul is roughly half what the second film in the series made in its first 24 hours, meaning it will likely end the weekend with a considerably lower total than Chapter 2's $40.3m.
