Danny Dyer has reportedly been forced to take a break for a “number of weeks” from the set of ‘Eastenders’, after producers told him he needed to “sort his life out” following a reputed string of drunken benders.

Sources told The Sun on Thursday (February 16th) that the 39 year old actor, who plays The Queen Vic’s landlord Mick Carter, had sparked concern among the BBC soap’s producers when he fell off the wagon at last month’s National Television Awards, in his battle to quit drinking.

'EastEnders' Confirms Plans To Build A Mosque On Set

Eastenders

The BBC is overhauling the set of its showcase soap opera ‘Eastenders’ in a bid to make it more representative of the real East End of London, adding a mosque, among other features, at its Elstree studios.

It is hoped that the reported £15 million makeover to Walford will allow the soap to “better reflect” the real East End of London as it exists today. “[It] will be as authentic as East London today, including a mosque,” a source told The Sun on Tuesday (February 23rd).

Soap Legend Anna Wing – You Know Her As Lou Beale – Dies Aged 98

Eastenders

Anna Wing – whose turn as Lou Beale in Eastenders lasted for 232 episodes – has sadly passed away aged 98. She died on Sunday, The BBC report. Possibly the last of her kind, with lucrative moves to different projects always on the cards, Wing’s career in the media spanned 6 decades.

In 2009 she received an MBE for her services to television, film, radio and theatre. At the time, Wing said: “I wanted to be an actress when I was a little girl and everybody said no, but I did it. I stuck it out and I've done it for 70 years and I'm still working.” Adam Woodyatt – who plays Ian Beale in Eastenders - described Wing as “a wonderful lady”. He also added that she helped him when he had to cry on screen for the first time.

“I was terrified I wouldn't be able to do it. Anna was so helpful, happy to rehearse it over and over again and put me completely at ease. Sure enough the tears flowed from nowhere. I have so many fond memories of her, my thoughts are with her family and friends.“

Christmas TV Viewing Figures Down From 2011, While Eastenders Wins The Day, Again

Eastenders

The focal point of any Christmas day emits from the box of which all our furniture is pointed at: the television. Christmas telly, in the U.K at least, is famous for being paradoxically depressing, but it still pulls in the viewers.

Eastenders - as it usually does - topped viewing figures for the big day, with 9.4m soap lovers tuning in. That figure is down from last years' 9.9m, as many of the numbers are. Coronation Street, much like in 2011, came second, but unlike 2011, when it was viewed by 9.3m, only 8.6m people chose the northern sitcom as their preferred Christmas telly. This is the fourth year in a row that Eastenders has triumphed in the listings.

Last year, Dr. Who came in third, with 8.9m, while this year's Christmas special - The Snowmen - which has been highly rated by the critics and fans alike, managed to drop over 1m viewers with 7.6m overall, placing it 5th in the chart. The Royal Family snuck into 4th with 7.7m watchers.
