One of his best childhood memories was seeing Damien Rice live in Ireland.
Musical career: Ed released his debut EP 'The Orange Room' in 2005. In 2008, he relocated to London in search of live gigs, playing almost every single day of the year in 2009 before later hitting the road with Just Jack. After posting a SB.TV video, he went on tour with Example. In 2010, he unveiled his 'Loose Change' EP which featured the original version of his multi-platinum song 'The A Team'. That year, he met Jamie Foxx while doing open mic nights in LA, and subsequently began recording in his studio while staying at his house. Sheeran broke into the mainstream in 2011 with his 'No. 5 Collaborations Project' EP featuring Wiley, Devlin, Ghetts and others. He soon signed to Asylum/Atlantic Records and released debut album '+' which included singles 'Drunk', 'The A Team', 'Lego House' and 'You Need Me, I Don't Need You'. The album topped the UK charts and became the ninth best-selling album of the year.
Ed Sheeran co-wrote the One Direction song 'Moments', released in 2011. The following year, he received two BRIT Awards for Best British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough of the Year. He then set out on a tour of the US with Snow Patrol. That year, his track 'Give Me Love' aired on 'The Vampire Diaries' episode 'Dangerous Liaisons'. He was chosen to perform at both the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in 2012 and the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony. He collaborated with Taylor Swift on her song 'Everything Has Changed' and even wrote One Direction's number one hit 'Little Things'. He performed alongside Elton John at the 2013 Grammys when the singer couldn't get Sheeran a solo spot. He set out on tour with Taylor Swift in 2013 and that year featured on Lupe Fiasco's song 'Old School Love' and Naughty Boy's 'Top Floor (Cabana)'.
In 2014, he contributed the song 'I See Fire' to the end credits of 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' and released his second number one album 'X', produced by Rick Rubin. The album peaked at number one in the UK Album chart and in the Billboard Hot 100. 'Sing' was the album's lead single and gained Sheeran his first number one in the UK.
In 2015 Ed won British Male solo Artist and British Album of the year for 'X'. He also co-hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards in the same year. He embarked on a year-long hiatus in December.
In 2016, he won two Grammys for his song 'Thinking Out Loud' and ended his hiatus. In 2017 he launched two new singles - 'Shape of You' and 'Castle on the Hill' - with the prospect of his third studio album entitled 'Divide'.
Other Ventures: In March 2015 Sheeran announced that he was to set up his own record label, Gingerbread Man Records. Jamie Lawson was the first artist to be signed to his label and his self-titled album earned him a number one in the UK albums chart.
Ed likes to be involved in charity work and performed a gig in Bristol in order to raise money for a charity that works to support street sex workers in total raising £40,000 for them.
He has also shown support for Band Aid, worked with the charity Turn2us and is the ambassador for East Anglia's Children's hospice where he frequently donates clothes.
Personal life: Sheeran is a patron of the Youth Music Theatre UK. He bought a farm in Suffolk in 2012 but lived in Tennessee and LA during 2013. In 2012 Sheeran dated Nina Nesbitt who is the subject of his songs 'Photograph' and 'Nina'. After they broke up Ed dated Athina Andrelos who works for Jamie Oliver. The relationship between them fell apart and in 2015 he was thought to be dating Cherry Seaborn who is his former high school friend.
In 2016, it was reported that Ed had been forced to undergo stitches on his face after Princess Beatrice accidently nicked him with a sword while jokingly 'knighting' James Blunt at a party at her Windsor home.
The change in the law comes into force on Thursday in Britain, and stops touts from using automated software to buy huge amounts of tickets.
Ticket touts who use automated software known as ‘bots’ in order to gobble up huge amounts of tickets to sell on at inflated prices now face the potential of unlimited fines under new British laws enacted today.
Over the last couple of years, major artists such as Ed Sheeran, Arctic Monkeys and Iron Maiden have been publicising the issue of so-called ‘secondary ticketing’, where unscrupulous use sites like Viagogo or StubHub to re-sell tickets at enormous mark-ups for popular events which sell out in seconds because of the software that allows them to buy huge numbers of tickets in one go.
The change in the law was announced by the British government back in January this year and comes into force on Thursday (July 5th), and those found to be using ‘bot’ software are liable to unlimited fines by British courts.

He wants the royalties he's been missing out on thanks to Sam Chokri.
Days after his hit song 'Thinking Out Loud' was sued for a second time over plagiarism allegations, Ed Sheeran is taking out his own lawsuit following the suspension of royalties for his other number one 'Shape Of You'. He wants the millions he's lost since a small-time musician accused him of copying his song.

It's been estimated that 'Shape Of You' has lost £20 million in revenue since royalties were suspended on May 10th by the court following musician Sam Chokri's claims that the track ripped off his song 'Oh Why'. The pay-outs were banned by The Performing Rights Society, but Ed's lawyers aren't having it.

Sheeran's 2014 track 'Thinking Out Loud' allegedly bears a resemblance to Gaye's 'Let's Get It On'.
Ed Sheeran is reportedly the subject of yet another copyright infringement lawsuit, this time being sued for $100 million for allegedly using multiple musical components of Marvin Gaye’s classic ‘Let’s Get It On’ for his 2014 hit ‘Thinking Out Loud’.
A lawsuit filed in the Second US Circuit Court of Appeals in New York claims that the British star copied Gaye’s song’s “melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bassline, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation and looping” for his huge hit single released four years ago from his second album X.
‘Thinking Out Loud’ was an enormous worldwide success, reaching the top of the UK Singles Chart and no.2 in the US Billboard Hot 100, with its parent album selling more than 15 million copies.

Copyright infringement between 2017 and 2018.
It seems we can't go a year without some big hit being slapped with an accusation of plagiarism by a usually not-famous songwriter. In 2014 it was Robin Thicke and Pharrell's 'Blurred Lines', then it was Sam Smith's 'Stay With Me' and Mark Ronson's 'Uptown Funk', and the case regarding Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway To Heaven' was even appealed in 2017.
This last year really seems to have been thick with copyright infringement claims, with the latest being Childish Gambino and his politically-charged monster hit 'This Is America'.

The possibility of great chested newts living on Sheeran's Suffolk property has forced him to call in conservation experts.
Ed Sheeran’s plans to build a private chapel on his Suffolk estate has been postponed in order for wildlife experts to check for great chested newts on the property.
The 27 year old star has been forced by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust to hire conservation experts to check for the protected amphibian species on his land, before he can get permission to build the chapel.
Sheeran announced his engagement to his long-term girlfriend Cherry Seaborn back in January this year, and at the same time lodged a planning application with the Suffolk Coastal District Council to build a Saxon-style flint chapel structure on his land, where he wants to wed.

Sheeran's 2011 track was reportedly used by anti-abortion campaigners in Dublin ahead of the referendum in Ireland this week.
Ed Sheeran has issued a statement asserting that he has not given permission for his song ‘Small Bump’ to be used by anti-abortion campaigners in the upcoming Irish referendum on the subject.
The song, which was included on his first studio album + back in 2011 and released as a single the following year, was reportedly being played by activists plugging the pro-life campaign in Dublin’s city centre over the weekend, just a week away from the referendum on the Eighth Amendment to the constitution.
The track’s lyrics include lines like: “You’re just a small bump unknown, you’ll grow into your skin / With a smile like hers and a dimple beneath your chin / Fingernails the size of a half grain of rice, and eyelids closed to be soon opened wide / A small bump, in four months you’ll open your eyes.”

Sheeran earned £28 million over the last 12 months.
It’s been a great year in financial terms for young British artists, with Ed Sheeran, Rita Ora and Calvin Harris all shooting up the Sunday Times’ Rich List after enjoying significant chart success over the last 12 months.
27 year old Sheeran, who released his third album Divide to such huge success in early 2017 that all 16 tracks made the top twenty of the UK Singles Chart, has seen his wealth grow by £28 million over the last year alone, meaning he’s now worth an estimated £80 million, according to the list published on Thursday (May 10th).
However, that still puts him a way behind the traditional big earners in British pop music, with Sir Paul McCartney heading the list with an estimated worth of £820 million.

Ed Sheeran's ubiquity and popularity will wane eventually, Sir Elton warned when talking on George Ezra's podcast.
Ed Sheeran may be the biggest male pop star in the world right now, but his friend and mentor Sir Elton John has warned the young British singer that his fame won’t last forever, and neither will his songs be so loved.
The 71 year old pop legend was speaking about the nature of massive worldwide fame on fellow singer George Ezra’s podcast this week, and said that 27 year old Ed’s music won’t be popular forever, and that he must be prepared for that eventual downturn.
“You have a heyday and you have a rest, and the heyday can never be replaced,” Sir Elton explained about his own experiences. “After that I had the common sense to know I’m not going to have a number one every time straight away. I knew someone else would take over. It’s cyclical.”

He's in talks for a new movie that is rumoured to be based on The Beatles.
Ed Sheeran could be expanding his slowly growing filmography with a forthcoming music comedy directed by Danny Boyle. There are already rumours that the movie is based around The Beatles, and there's even suggestions that it could be a musical. Little is known so far.

The BPI figures for 2017 show an extremely healthy year, with the fastest rate of growth since the mid-Nineties.
Much has been made of the existential threat to the music industry over the years, but that trend doesn’t seem to be applying to the British music scene, with record labels in the UK currently seeing the fastest rates of income growth since the height of Britpop in the 1990s.
New figures published by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) in its annual yearbook on Wednesday (March 11th) showed that trade income increased by 10.6% in 2017 to a total of £839.4 million.
The British industry hasn’t seen anything like this level of growth since the explosion in indie and rock back in the mid-Nineties, when the likes of Blur and Oasis ruled the charts. Indeed, the figures are only just below the 10.7% levels of growth seen 22 years before in 1995.
