Ed Sheeran takes a nostalgic look back at his younger years in a music video released today (January 23rd 2017) dedicated to his hometown of Framlingham, Suffolk. It's the companion for his song 'Castle on the Hill'; one of the first singles from his third album 'Divide'.

He may have sung 'I won't stay put, give me the chance to be free/ Suffolk sadly seems to sort of suffocate me' on his song 'You Need Me, I Don't Need You' from his debut album '+ (plus)', but these days he has a lot more love for the county that raised him and proved it with his latest single 'Castle on the Hill'. The lyrics remember him breaking his leg while playing as a child, his first kiss, drinking, smoking and misbehaving with friends, and reflects on what those old friends are doing with their lives now as Ed roars down country lanes to return home.

The video, directed by George Belfield, sees a gang of kids led by a red-headed Ed Sheeran doppelganger hanging out by the coast, playing pool at a pub, and enjoying bonfirers and car shows. The final shot sees the singer himself enjoying a can of beer with his friends in the shadow of Framlingham Castle, representing his older self.

Ed Sheeran released 'Castle on the Hill' alongside 'Shape of You' as the two lead singles from his forthcoming album 'Divide', following a 12-year hiatus where he even suspended his social media activity. 'Castle...' reached number 2 in the UK Singles Chart, while the latter song topped the charts in at least 22 countries including the UK and US. He made history by becoming the first artist to unveil two singles at consecutive top positions on the charts.
