Tonight Britain’s finest musical stars (plus a few from across the pond) will gather in London’s O2 for the annual Brit Awards ceremony. With Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Madonna all set to perform, this year’s awards looks to be one of the most star studded in recent years and perhaps even the most memorable.

Ed SheeranCan Ed Sheeran expect a big night at the Brits?

The big talking point of the night will probably be the return of the queen of pop Madonna, who will take to the Brits stage to perform ‘Living for Love’ after a 20 year absence from the awards. Always looking for a new way to shock an audience, a source close to the singer told The Mirror last month there was “no better place for a controversy-filled Madonna performance than the Brits.”

The source also added that Madonna “knows she needs to really entertain and bring a good show because she’ll want to be the talking point.” So after heating up the Grammy’s stage earlier this month, it’s safe to say we’re expecting something pretty special from the Material Girl.

You can also expect tonight to be a big one for Ed Sheeran who has four award nominations. The ‘Thinking Out Loud’ singer is the bookies’ favourite to win Best British Album for X and will also be performing at the ceremony.

However Ed will have some pretty stiff competition from another young British star, Sam Smith, who’ll be hoping to replicate his Grammys success. Smith leads this year’s nominations with five nods while indie duo Royal Blood have three and FKA twigs has two.

The Brit awards does traditionally like to come up with a few surprises on the night and this year Rhianna is rumoured to be the top secret performer. But even if Ri-Ri doesn't make an appearance there’s still Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, Take That, Royal Blood, George Ezra and Paloma Faith to contend with, alongside Sheeran and Madonna.

This year the ceremony will be hosted by Ant and Dec, who last presented the awards in 2001. The awards will be broadcast on ITV in the UK, with it all kicking off at 8pm.
