Talia Castellano, the 13-year-old, who enchanted America with her makeup videos died on Tuesday (16th July). Talia had battled with cancer: she suffered from neuroblastoma and leukaemia.

Ellen Degeneres, pictured at the Netflix premiere of Arrested Development, was a fan of Talia's YouTube videos.

Neuroblastoma affects the nerve tissue. According to Cancer.org, it is common in children under the age of 1 and affects around 700 children in the US every year. In the majority of cases, including Talia's, it can spread to other parts of the body.

Talia was first diagnosed and treated in 2007. It appeared she was cancer free until she relapsed in 2008. Over the next five years she attempted to overcome her illness but it developed into leukaemia in 2012.

On her YouTube site, Talia introduced herself as "13 years old" and someone who "loves make-up". She stated that "make-up is my wig" as she preferred to wear make-up to "feel good and pretty inside- and I guess outside". Talia had posted over 150 videos on her YouTube site. Her last post was in June when she discussed her stay in hospital and, although upbeat, admitted she was in a great deal of pain.

Prior to her passing yesterday, Talia had been in hospital for nearly 6 months with only a short break.

Talia's videos have featured on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and were hugely popular owing to her optimistic outlook in the face of her illness. DeGeneres has tweeted on Talia's death twice. The first reads: "this year I met a very special girl, and today we lost her". She went on to send her condolences to Talia's family. Later she tweeted an Instagram picture of Talia on CoverGirl magazine adding, "thinking of my friend".

DeGeneres was not the only celebrity touched by Talia's videos. As a result of her appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show, Talia interviewed Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato. She also appeared as a model for CoverGirl magazine.

It was announced today on Talia's Facebook page that her mother and sister will appear tomorrow (Thursday 18th July) on the Today show.

Contactmusic sends their condolences to Talia's family and friends.
