Pixar’s latest animated film Finding Dory could be about to break new ground, as many fans believe it features a lesbian couple. When the film’s latest trailer hit last week some fans noticed that it featured two women pushing a baby in a stroller, leading many to believe they were the studio's first lesbian couple.

In the clip the women are seen doting over a baby in a stroller who gets knocked over by an octopus (and then seemingly replaced by one). While the two characters probably only make a brief appearance in the film, they would be the studio’s first lesbian couple.

On twitter fans couldn't contain their excitement over the possibility. "If the rumors are true and the first lesbian couple in a disney movie ever is in #FindingDory YAY for a big important step to acceptance!!!!" wrote one user.

Another added: "I'm wondering if the speculation about Finding Dory being the first Pixar film to feature a lesbian couple is true? If so, I need a ticket.” So far Pixar has not commented on the rumours.

The film’s main character, loveable but forgettable fish Dory, is voiced by Ellen Degeneres, who back in 1997 came out publicly on her sitcom ‘Ellen’, helping break down barriers for LGBT entertainers.

The news that Pixar might be about to feature its first lesbian couple comes after an online campaign to get Frozen’s Princess Elsa a girlfriend went viral. The twitter campaign #GiveElsaaGirlfriend has caused headlines all over the world and even star Idina Menzel has lent her support.
