The director made the announcement at Comic-Con in San Diego, California on Saturday (11Jul15), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Morricone is famous for his work on A Fistful of Dollars and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, but The Hateful Eight will be his first Western music project in more than 40 years.

Tarantino, who showed fans a seven-minute supercut of the film at Comic-Con, has featured Morricone's music in several of his movies, including Kill Bill and Django Unchained.

The Hateful Eight, starring Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russell and Michael Madsen, is due for release next year (16).
