Review of New Amerykah Part Two: Return Of The Ankh Album by Erykah Badu

The queen of 'neo soul' is back! Her unique jazz voice, likened to Billie Holiday and sassy lyrical integrity has made her popular worldwide and amongst many different types of listeners. This album has certainly been selling well. She is an undeniable talent and has a great voice. Indeed for many it's a welcome return and great to be once again hearing Badu back in the room!

Erykah Badu New Amerykah Part Two: Return Of The Ankh Album

I loved Badu's first album 'Baduizm' and have listened to most of her albums. They all show a sophistication, coolness and street soul; 'New Amerykah Part Two' is no different. It has all the Badu trademarks that highlight her status as a consistent artist. 'Window Seat', 'Agitation', 'Gone Baby, Don't Be Long' and 'Fall In Love (your funeral)' are all classic Badu. There's the angst of an older and more experienced women here to show progression of the lyrics but Erykah has always had depth of character that continues to stand out.

'New Amerykah: Return Of The Ankh' is a great album, it shows 'neo soul' still has its place in the musical fraternity of innovation. However if you're looking for something different or experimental from this artist you won't find it here. There's nothing on 'Part Two' that you haven't heard Badu do before however it is done very well. If you like her you won't be disappointed!
