Famke Janssen's Break-In: Burglar Leaves 'The Lonely Doll'

Famke Janssen claims a break-in occurred at her New York City apartment this weekend.

Janssen filed a report with the NYPD after returning to her apartment on Saturday evening to find a copy of The Lonely Doll in her bedroom, according to a report by TMZ. The X-Men star claims never to have seen this book before or ever owned it. According to one police officer, speaking to the NY Post, "she walked into her bedroom and noticed a children's book standing on the shelf beside her bed."

The cover of the children's book is enough to send a shiver up anyone's spin. The pink and white checked dust sheet features a black and white photograph of a sad looking doll. The Lonely Doll was first published in 1957 by Dare Wright and is about, as you may have suspected, a lonely doll named Edith. By the end of the story, Edith is no longer lonely and she has been befriended by two teddy-bears. These teddy-bears then never leave Edith alone, becoming her companions for life.

Janssen believes the break-in occurred any time between 7.30am and 8pm on Saturday whilst she was out of the apartment, running errands. Even stranger than the 'present' is the fact that Janssen is the only one to have access to her Greenwich Village apartment and that there was no sign of forced entry. The NYPD are currently investigating the incident as a burglary.

The Lonely Doll is the first book in a series of ten written by Wright - could this mean that the Janssen break-in is merely one of many?
