Based on a true story, The Devil's Double is about Latif Yahia and Uday Hussein (the latter of whom is the eldest son of future dictator Saddam Hussein) who were former school mates in Baghdad with a striking resemblance to each other. Years later, in 1987, Latif is summoned by Uday and is propositioned with what is described to him as a great honour: because of the two's similarity, Latif has been chosen to be Uday's body double, a deal he has no choice but to accept or have his family condemned to death.
Latif has no choice but to obey and much like Saddam's body doubles, the former is put under the knife to look more like Uday. Latif also learns how to walk, talk and act like his doppelganger and is made one of the Hussein family with Saddam declaring him 'a third son'. Latif is quickly pulled into Uday's seedy life. He discovers the dysfunctional relationship between Uday and Saddam and in particular the various methods of torture Uday likes to inflict on people - particularly young, beautiful girls. Latif falls in love with one girl in particular, Sarrab, who has also won over Uday's affections. What follows is a deadly love triangle between the two men and Sarrab and while the insane Uday continues his casual torture and killing of innocent people, Latif struggles to see a way out of his new life.
