Florence and the Machine has been confirmed as heading Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage on Friday June 26th, after Foo Fighters were force to withdraw from the festival. Dave Grohl’s band made the announcement that they’d be giving up their headlining slot yesterday, due to the frontman fracturing his leg at a concert in Sweden last Friday.

“We’re very pleased to announce that Florence + The Machine will play the Friday night Pyramid headline slot, which Foo Fighters were forced to withdraw from yesterday,” Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis said in a statement.

"Once we heard the sad news that Foo Fighters had been forced to pull out, there was only one person we wanted to call and that was Florence. Every time she has played here she’s done something spectacular and we always knew she would headline the Pyramid one day. I’m delighted she’s agreed to step up to it – she’s going to smash it!”

Florence had been already scheduled to take the stage at the festival on June 26th before the Foo’s headlining set. Rapper Kanye West is set to headline the famous stage the following night, while The Who will close this year's festival on the Sunday. Organisers have said the revised Pyramid Stage set timings for 26 June would be announced soon.

Dave Grohl’s injury has forced Foo Fighters to pull out of a string of scheduled shows along with their Glastonbury appearance, including two nights at London’s Wembley Stadium on June 19th and 20th. In an open letter on the band’s website Grohl told fans, “My doctors have advised me to lay low for a while.”

“The most important thing now is for me to recover from the surgery, to keep my leg elevated so as to keep swelling down and prevent any infection/complication that could do long term damage. I’m not out of the woods yet, folks,” the singer continued.

Grohl, who managed to finish last Friday’s concert with a fractured leg, then assured fans he’d make it up to them. ”I will do everything I can to come back and give you a night to remember for the rest of your lives AS SOON AS POSSIBLE,” Grohl added.
